I prefer ''Ref I need to quit fighting this clown or i'll shart my shorts.'' Poo is too gay for Duran. If he did **** himself then 'El Chocolo' could have been his name but he held it in like a true G then called Ray a clown and went for a ****. Roberto 'Sphinchter of Stone' Duran :yep

Ray would have shat all over the ring if it was him. The child abuse he endured would have gave him poor sphincter control.

DurĂ¡n fought Vinny Pazienza in 1994 and 1995 for the IBC Super Middleweight Championship and was defeated both times by unanimous decision, but many people felt Duran clearly won the first bout and he was robbed of the victory.

THIS WAS WHEN DURAN WAS IN HIS 40'S FOR FS. What was Trinidad doing in his 40's again? Oh that's right he was long retired by then. This line of thinking is beyond silly. And I was not the one who said Duran was a better middleweight than Trinidad, but on a p4p basis I don't think it's even close.

It's not easy having a conversation with something he feels that Hagler felt sorry for Duran, simply because the fight was close. It's not exactly an objective viewpoint, if fact it's the first time since the actual fight took place that I've ever heard that comment before. As for Benitez, it really wasn't one of his better performances and it was at 154 which isn't exactly his, or whitaker's or Floyd's best weight division. In my opinion the bottom line is that Duran had more peaks and valley's than either of those two, but at his very best, which was at lw, there simply were few better. This is born out by at video's of all three. In addition to comments by Gil Clancey, Angelo Dundee, and Arcel, all of whom have an extremely high regard for his skill set. It's kind of funny that guys like Benitez, who Duran lost to, got pasted by Moore who Duran completely owned. Likewise, Hagler destroyed Duran, and then Duran beat the guy who beat him, if that's not some indication of inconsistency I don't know what is. But these are at higher rates while he was past prime, hardly great comparisons to use for extrapolation purposes.

Mayorga had nowhere near the skill set of Duran, so I don't know why we're going there and I'm not even sure how we got into a discuss of a H2H match up between Tito and Duran to begin with.

Hagler needed to win the last couple of rounds to win the fight, he couldn't have cared less if he hurt Duran or not, how exactly to you punch a guy to win the round while ensuring you don't hurt him?

That's a real mystery to me. What do you do, take 10% off your power, 20% off it's a very strange argument.

The thread title isn't who at welter weight or middle weight would beat a past prime Duran, rather the question is whether or not some people over rate him. Obviously you feel they do.

Arguello and Duran didn't fight because Alexis lost to Vilomar Fernandez.

If you haven't watched the Moore fight, the whole topic of how Duran would to on a H2H basis at 154 is pointless. That was nothing short of a brutal beat down and the guys name wasn't Duddley, it was Davey.

    No. / thread

Kevin why do we need 4 threads on this?

It's not like any of these discussions ever change anyone's mind. If you liked Duran you're going to like him after 20 pages of thread, if you don't, then you still won't.

H2h, at his best, he beats the living **** out of Mayweather that's all you need to know. :good

Yes, overall I think he's overrated, and let it be known that I am a fan of his. There are too many embarrassing losses, though I temper their relevance a little bit given the fact that Roberto was fighting well over his natural weight in some of them and was old.

But it's tough to assess him too negatively because he was still competitive at an advanced age, giving guys like Pazienza and Camacho tough fights late in his career.

I guess it's a question of what strikes you more: longevity, resilience, and comebacks, or dramatic losses, some to guys who weren't that great.

Roberto Duran was at his peak as a lightweight. Despite remaining very formidable while fighting in heavier weight divisions, Duran became far less dominant and much more beatable when he outgrew the lightweight division. As a result, I think that Duran has been somewhat overrated as a welterweight or middleweight.

That's one view of things, another is that just the fact Duran is even mentioned at middleweight considering he started out at 118 and his best weight was 135 is amazing.

Duran is absolutely a lock for the top 10, and possibly makes the top 5.

The only way you overate him is by saying he could fight at LtHvy and above, or is better than SRR and Greb or the others in front of him ( all time)

Otherwise, Duran is a lock for praise and rightly so.

I think Duran may be "overrated" in the sense that he wasn't always 100% for his fights. The lifestyle outside the ring definitely affected his consistency inside it. I feel that this has to count against him. But at his best - no, he was not overrated. Duran was an elemental force.
