I knew they fought twice, but I don't know which fights you were referring to because Duran also fought his brother. So there were a total of 3 fights with the Viruets and you never clarified which of these fights you were talking about and my response likely reflected this. But truthfully I did brush up on the scorecard because I didn't know that off the top of my head. BTW Viruet had a decent pedigree going into that first fight, the only thing he really lacked was power. He had a very good amateur background albeit relatively short by many who fight today. Back in the days, fighters like Marciano basically learned while they were professionals, and many never had the extensive background of a GGG for example. Duran never had many amateur fights at all.

So you're telling me you honestly believe that if Duran and Mayweather fought, Duran would win.

Like I said, I'd make Duran the favorite. Mayweather could beat him like Leonard did but I could also see Duran's pressure and aggression taking him out of his game. Why the ? I've tried to explain to you in the past many times that I'm not a fanboy like you...I just watch fights and call them like I see them. :good

Duran was so great over many many years beat Buchanan when I was a baby and was fighting paz when I was watching him in a bar as young man .all those years hard to believe .The guys who beat him were so rare that they get noticed because of this.

Viruet got a lot of press during that time because he lasted the distance. It was seen by some as a ***** in Durans armour that he did not KO his opponent. Those that watched the fight however did not see anything from Viruet aside from a safety first style. Duran had him continually on the ropes and outhit him at least 2-1 in both bouts.

Different scoring criteria for different folks but plenty of knowledgable fans still think that Viruet won the first fight (or at least earned a draw). Did you ever give your thoughts about the first De Jesus fight? I asked about them not to denigrate Duran but to try to understand your statement that you watched all of his fights but still can't imagine pre-147 Duran being beaten.

Any knowledgable boxing historian always speaks of said fighter at his best. Ali, Duran, Louis, Dempsey....they all have off nights. Duran beat Dejesus twice by KO after fight one. At lt weight Duran was a monster.

The second bout was one sided in terms of scoring.

The first bout was only close on one scorecard. Viruet was living in NY and the first bout was held in NY. The arena was filled with Viruet friends and fans and of course the simple fact he lasted the distance and was not overwhelmed gave them all cause to believe Edwin won the bout. Thus all the jeers and boos after the decision was read. Aside from the crowds uproar I do not remember any controversy. I don't think anyone of note actually scored the bout for Viruet.

    Yes.

Long answer: If Maidana could trouble Floyd, Duran would starch him.

Again, you are half right, but ruin it with your pathetic hatred of Duran. He was indeed a serious binge drinker, and eater, and could put on thirty pounds in less than two weeks after a fight. His handlers were well aware of this, so kept him as busy as they could in fights. If there was one thing Duran loved more than food and drink it was the money to pay for it. So they kept him fighting as regularly as they could, NOT to pad out his record but to stop him weighing as much as 190 if he was left to his own devices, when he was supposed to be campaigning at Lightweight.

You are surpassing yourself on this thread Klueless Kevin, I'll give you that much.

It only took you 28 minutes to go from, this

    to this

Then when faced with this ( yet again )

And your response is the garbage you have written above.

There are thousand of weirdo fanboys on the internet, Tyson freaks, Pacturds, and you are by no means alone in being an unashamed Leonard fan boy.

But credit where it is due, there aren't many as stupid as you in the sense that they even ignore the words of their own heroes.

So Leonard himself, says Duran imposed his style in their first fight, but you obviously think he is a know nothing idiot, who should bow down to your a.n.a.lysis of what happened?:nut:nut:rofl:rofl:rofl

Nicely done, Perry:good. Great job! Thanks. You wrote down pure facts. It should also be noted that Duran stopped 2 fellows that beat Alexis Arguello in Vilomar Fernandez and Ernesto Marcel(2 guys you mentioned in your post:good). Anyone that claims Duran is overrated is loco.

You're probably too old to learn how to read any better but that first statement was about Buchanan, not Duran.
