Of all things Duran was not overrated as a LT weight. One of the greatest LT weights ever. P4P one of the greatest fighters ever.

As he went up on weight his punches did not have the same effect as when he was LT weight but he still could punch very hard certainly as a welterweight.

Duran is one of the very best lightweights of all time (because of his talent and skills) but I'm not sure that I follow what you're getting at with this list. How many of these guys were considered to be great lightweights at the time?

Buchanan and DeJesus. Lampkin was highly considered at that time too. The Marcel fight was at 130-pre prime Duran.

Doesn't matter which one it was, your still a mile out. If you think Buchanan lacked the mobility or ring IQ of Mayweather you are even more stupid than I gave you credit for.

You are obviously an idiot kid that has been brought up watching cherry pickers, and catchweight fights, and thinks that stuff is the norm.

Anyway here is some further education for you.

    IMPOSE.

And that my little schoolboy chum is EXACTLY what Duran did to Leonard in Montreal. The fundamental difference between the two of course, is Duran did his " imposing " or " manipulation " in the ring, NOT at the negotiating table.:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

Of the 2 specimens of fighting men in the ring Leonard, though the bigger, was the " weaker " of the pair.

There was nothing he could do to stop the stronger man imposing himself upon him. Of all the clinches in the fight, the vast majority were initiated by Leonard in the hope of getting some respite from the onslaught. But even that didn't work, because Padilla just slapped his gloves away from Duran's body when he hung on like a limpet.

Leonard fought the fight he CHOSE to fight in Montreal and was found to be severely lacking. The only thing he could possibly have done differently was tap and run, but that would have looked pretty cowardly after all his mouth in the build up, now wouldn't it?

That might be why he kept his mouth firmly shut before the rematch, and indeed did tap and run.

I dont think we overrate Duran. The man was one of the best lightweights ever. He had a great style. He moved up from lightweight, to welterweight, then light middleweight, then middleweight and finally supermiddleweight to fight the best around. He didnt win them all, losing to Hagler, Hearns and Leonard. But he could have stayed at lightweight and dominated for years. But he stepped up and took the toughest fights around. None of this catchweight bull****, none of this "you come down to my weight" or "i want 70%" stuff. Just stepped up and fought. I take my hat off to that.

....and Benitez, Laing and Robby Sims.

He was certainly a great figter at Lightweight and, briefly, at Welterweight.

But, some people on here go a little overboard. One poster called him "the greatest junior welterweight of all time" even though he never fought in that division.

I see what you mean. I just think that all of the fablous 4, Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Leonard deserve a lot of credit for what they done to boxing.

Well that's admittedly a little overboard, but then again, IF he had fought at 140 he likely would have done very well. But certainly any boxer needs to justify his list in a particular division based on accomplishments he actually achieved in said division, not what he might have achieved.

Yes. This forum overrates every fighter from old eras. Fighters now are better, just like in every other sport. Back in the days they didn't have the training, diet plans, film study, enhancement drugs of now, bigger paydays to bring in every great athlete in. Of course there are exceptions. Athletes that would be great in any era.

    This.

Duran was the kind of fighter that only asked 2 questions.

    Where is the fight?

    and

    How much money?

This is more than likely what sticks in the throats of Leonard fanboys.

It could be worse. He could have been fukked in 5 rounds by a guy whose first world title was at 130lbs, or if you prefer a whole 6 divisions below the title he got battered for:rofl:rofl:rofl
