Is it really realistic for Manny to insist on 50/50 split?

    The numbers are in!
Cotto Mayweather generated 1.5 million ppv buys grossing $94 million... And this number will grow once all numbers are in.
This makes the ppv the second largest non heavyweight bout ever, scond only to Dela Hoya vs Mayweather.

The Neveda commission are also reporting that the gate is the 9th largest in history for the state, over $12.

In nine HBO PPV main events, Mayweather has generated 9.6 million buys and $543 million in television revenue, according to HBO(according to ESPN).

It is clear that Floyd has a point when he says he is the biggest financial draw in boxing, this seems undisputable. My question thus is whether it is realistic, legitimate or feasible for Manny to demand a 50/50 split? If you were Floyd would you accept a 50/50 split? Is Floyd being greedy and denying the fans the fight, or is this just simple financial common sense that anyone would apply for themselves in any financial negotiation?
Ali is to blame because he changed this sport monetarily and redefined the role of money and TV in boxing. Since him the person who is the cash cow in boxing has become arguably more important for the sport and its survival than who is the best boxer. Once in a while these two positions happily co-exist! The reason this debate is pertinent is that this is simply the way it is now in boxing, this is the real politik of the sport. For all of you who think this can easily be swept aside or put forward some other simplistic notions on how the fight is made..... well wake up and smell the coffee!

Wait for this upcoming fight and see what it generates. Then the two can sit down and show their numbers for their matches.

Fans just want a fight. Fighters want their fare share of the pot.

  3. when people say it should be a 50/50 i understand why...its what most would project as the biggest fight in the history of the sport...as far as finances......and that would be because both sides bring so much to the table.....so in looking at it like that....it should be 50/50 right? both guys bring alot to the table......but its just not that easy.....mayweather vs anyone else isnt going to be the biggest fight, financially, ever.....and pac vs anyone else isnt going to be either......but its not just as simple as saying that.....just because neither guy vs any other guy is going to be the biggest grossing non heavyweight fight ever doesnt mean they are going to split it right down the middle

I hear ya.... but we all know Bradley vs Manny will do good figures but it aint gonna challenge the figures Floyd has posted over his last 5 fights right! I,m just saying in a financial negotiation i believe it is both odd and unrealistic to expect the stronger party not to drive that advantage home....

Regardless if he wants 50/50 or not it's not like Floyd is gonna accept 55/45 or even 60/40. Dude wants like 70% of the profit. The fight will never happen, especially now after those numbers came in

It's more realistic than accepting a flat fee. And if 1.5 buys equates to 94mil, then one can assume a Pac/Floyd fight would generate (at a conservative 2mil buys) would do 130-150 mil. Profit sharing is te way to go and splits should be proportional to their drawing power (ppv buys). So I say the fairest deal is around 55-45 Floyd since that seems to be the right ratio between them.

I still say Arum might have to get fired on this one. I don't think Floyd wants anymore money in his pocket which should be in the fighter's.

How much will Arum want to be a part of this and want financially ?

Floyd doesn't need Arum at all. He and Golden Boy run their shows quite well and seem to work out well for the fighters. Cotto being an example of a top level Name Fighter that left Arum, signed up for a match with Floyd, and is said to have done quite well for himself this past fight. More so than he has ever done with Arum.
Floyd, Oscar, and Cotto...all made more money away from Arum. Pac might be able to work out a deal that does the same. He should play his options.

Floyd just has to give Pac his fare share based on whatever numbers they find to be true if he does leave. And no buyout. PPV sales should be huge on this one.

It's hard to say though. I don't know what kind of deal he has with Golden Boy. But surely, I don't see them wanting to give Arum a piece of the pie when they don't need him to do anything.

So after Floyd beat the true WW champion in SSM and did 1.4 million ppv buys, he would've been lucky to get 45%?

Not wanting Arum IS a problem. Simply put,Pac is contractually oblgated. If you want a fight with Pac you negotiate thru Arum. It's not a question of they really need Arum, it is an issue where it goes hand in hand. As long As Pac is a TR fighter, you deal with Arum. No ifs and buts about it. And Floyd knows this....that's why him saying no fight as long as Arum is involved might as well be him saying he doesn't want the fight.

  13. lol...a 160 lb margarito??? awesome.....ortiz was like 164 on fight night with floyd.....so well say floyd knocked out a 164 lb ortiz....add that to the resume...

arum is a ******....he better get in on this fight before pac walks after 2012....pac doesnt need arum(although im not sure anyone else currently associated with pac is capable of pullin off fights for him....and anyone is pacs camp is likely to lead them in the direction of someone else who will likely fleece them too)......in 2013 the fight will be passed the the perfect point we will have wanted to see it.....but if pac is free or arum it will be perfect.....even though manny could put his foot down and demand the fight.....i know how much arum would hate to see his guy lose to the guy who left him and became a mogul.....but it would be better than arum getting nothing out of it....if manny has the balls to walk away from arum

The top 4 grossing non HW ppvs all involve Mayweather. He deserves a bigger split. Just how much bigger is another story.

I personally think 50/50 is fair. Floyd performs better in general and probably does deserve a higher share, but let's be honest... we're talking a 52/48 to 55/45 split at best. Any higher is being unreasonable.
