Is it ridiculous that Ring ranks Nigel Benn the 91st greatest puncher ever?

On Ring Magazine's list of the 100 greatest punchers of all time... they have Benn at 91.

Surely he ranks much higher than that. He could hit damn hard. He demolished fighters.

It's esspecially ridiculous that they have the likes of Tom Sharkey, Jersey joe Walcott, Evander Holyfield, Bobby Chacon, Roy Jones Jr, Mike McCallum,Charley Burley, Eder Jofre etc AHEAD of him on the list.

I'm not saying those fighters were not great punchers, but Benn was surely better, wasn't he?

Not at all, he was a huge puncher and koed some iron chin fighters in his time.

  4. i agree he should be ranked higher than this , as a middleweight he had unbelievable raw power and should certainly be ahead of mccallum and jones

Nigel was an AWESOME puncher. Not many could send Iran Barkley home after less than one round.

Jones at smw and McCallum at lmw were crushing punchers, and Chacon, Walcott, Burley and Jofre all had great power too, but I agree that Benn should be higher than 91st on the list.

Benn only showed big KO power early on against stiffs. The Barkley stoppage had as much to do with his ruthless fouling as his power. He could punch but a place in the top 100 should be considered an accomplishment on his part.

thats not fair to mclellan considering all the fouling and accumalitive punishment throughout the fight that doesnt qualify benn as a huge puncher by going by that fight

Benn was a monstrous devastating puncher, he should be considerably higher, especially compared to those guys.
