Is it ridiculous that Ring ranks Nigel Benn the 91st greatest puncher ever?

Back then i thought Pat Barrett was the biggest punching British fighter.

    Lazy waste of talent though.

Colin Jones hit harder than Benn too, though even moreso lacks the quality victims.

Man, why do you think McClellan got permanently injured?
it was all from the rabbit punching. minus the rabbit punching McCLellan still wins a hardfought fight.
Or with a different referee, Benn would've been stopped in the first round

That was a list of the 100 greatest punchers of all time, not necessarily the hardest. That's why guys like Marvin Hagler and Carlos Monzon are rated higher than David Tua and Tiger Jack Fox, both of whom possessed more raw firepower.

Ive not seen the list. I think Louis and Robinson should top it, in that case.

Based on raw power, obviously Benn would be near the top.

But surely it's not based on raw power? There's so much more to a punch - like precision, speed, timing, snap, heavy-handedness, and there's variety and combination punching too.

Julian Jackson and Thomas Hearns were better skilled punchers than Benn because they scored more one-punch KO's - which are all S.A.T (speed, accuracy, timing)...

Benn didn't have great accuracy or timing or the quickness of the killer blow of a Jackson or Hearns, and didn't set his punches up very well at all. But what he had was pure raw power and was a born hitter, a natural banger. He threw his punches from amateurish angles.

Benn stopped McClellan and Barkley, where Jackson and Hearns failed, remember. He did so because he had more raw power.

Truth. His big early kayo against top opposition, Barkley, was a travesty. Not often does a fight end in the first with that many fouls committed against the loser. Benn truly deserved a DQ-Two blatant hits on a downed opponent in one round. Inexcusable.

As it stands, he was a great puncher. But top 100? I think he does well to rate 91.

He also KO'd Robbie Sims for the first time in his career.

(Quinones flattened DeWitt with one accurate right hand he didn't see - Hearns couldn't find the KO punch against DeWitt)

No he did so against Barkley because of the 3 knockdown rule.

Benn flattened Sherry and Malinga with single rights that weren't power-based but rather well-timed short overarm counters

AS regards Benn, he should probably be rated on his middleweight punching power, At super-middle Benn was a slower poison.

The thing with these type of rankings is that if it is on "Punching Power" ALONE
    - and not technique of delivery, then many a less successful fighter should be considered, they may not of had the success of more overall talented practicioners, but may of indeed matched them in that one component - punching power, for instance Dangerous Don Lee and Slammin Sammy Nesmith were two big punching Middlewights, Chins, Management, Dedication, other thing may of let them down, but for Punching Power Alone i thik they are worth a Nod in their direction.

I was also a little mystified why Jamie Garza never even got a Runners up Mention, - a few Experts rated him a Harder single shot Hitter than his predessor Wilfredo Gomez, Jamie's Chin (and Tactics) let him down against Mesa -but Again For Punching Power Alone - Certainly worth a Mention.

There will be others who fell by the wayside but on punching power alone....
