No it won't. As someone said earlier in thread, it's a trade fight.

 

Mayweather will NEVER fight in the UK other than in the world of Rob 'I am ****ing clueless' Palmers fantasies.

He may give an interview now and then where he says "I'd love to fight in front of my UK fans", but the moment it is realised how much money they would lose as opposed to Vegas the idea is quickly shelved.

 

"We're going to talk (with Primetime). And we're going to talk soon. I'm going to have my people here in a few weeks to sit down and work something out because they've stuck behind Amir Khan and we appreciate that.

"We know you (Primetime) want to be a player in the boxing world. Well, you have the biggest promoter in the world today right now telling you we're going to work together and that's the bottom line."

Wonder if Oscar is just talking complete **** and is wanting to make Sky sweat a bit.

Yeah, he was laughing because Oscar is seriously failing to understand what SKY is and what Primetime is.

He is stuck in the mindset of it being like Showtime and HBO. Wheras in reality it is nothing remotely similar. It isn't another network

Sky = Showtime + HBO + ESPN, 95% of basic cable, 90% of cable companies + ownership links with the biggest popular market newspaper and most influential quality newspaper

Primetime = Integrated PPV

 

Agreed, Oscar probably thought he was doing an Arum style move from HBO PPV to CBS/Showtime.

In reality he moved from Tesco to Budgens

 

To be fair theres nothing stopping Primetime from becoming the main platform for boxing in the UK and with Oscar behind them (if he's genuine) why not? SKY have had umpteen chances to get more involved in boxing and unless theres a decent champion from the UK they tend not to bother. Every now and then they get an american fight on SKY but its usually the same story; one undercard fight if your lucky followed by main event (sometimes with those silly borders coz they wont pay for widescreen) with ages of listening to their **** pre and post fight bias verbal then end the show with ages to go instead of showing any more fights from the undercard.

Setanta were doing brilliant in the UK for boxing and when they needed a bit of financial help a big player like GBP in their corner would have gone a long way to perhaps saving them. (also Setanta wasnt showing the fights as PPV events therefore Primetime should be able to sustain the finances from boxing better than Setanta.

SKY's trouble is they are like babies, even if they dont want to play with the toys themselves they dont want anyone else playing with them either.

 

You do realise that Sky show the same fights broadcast by HBO or Showtime? Television cards in the states are always two fights at best therefore the undercards are HORRIBLE. If you watch when Premier or Primetime show television cards from America you'd know that. And the in-studio stuff is to fill time whilst the Americans play music video after music video.

And Sky have been pretty good in showing the big American cards. If Oscar isn't full of **** then boxing fans should be worried because that means we'd start having to pay for the Golden Boy cards that we're currently getting through Sky Sports.

And the fact is as I think the guy from Premier pointed out - foriegn fights may please the hardcores but they are not what attract the viewing public due to unfamilarity with the names and the awkward time slots. As long as Sky are tight with Warren and Matchroom they're going to have the bulk of the contests that people actually want to see.

No, I am not an employee of SKY.

If there was any truth to his claim, SKY could of done many things to inhibit Primetime's ability to be successful with it. They could of removed all coverage from their Sports channels, stripped the Ringside feature and also reduced the presence of any advertisements. They didn't do this.

Despite what it may seem, Primetime's success is also beneficial to SKY. If they don't want to air a PPV event, they certainly would not get in the way or hinder it going onto Primetime

 

There is no doubt that if DLH isn't talking **** then out of nowhere Primetime can become a major player. If GBP cards are good enough they could now get 2 PPV revenue streams. Alvarez will be facing his second British opponent in Rhodes. Maybe that will be on Primetime!
