You gotta love oscar and his talking but come on this is hyperbole at its best.

Sky TV the leaders in innovation and technology. HD, 3D and top of the range production or go with primetime, some low budget channel who dont screen in HD and have the marketing budget of Challenge TV?

Does Oscar think he could just have GBP fighters stuck on on some obscure PPV channel in britian watched by about 5000 people at max.

GBP, Bob Arum, Dibella, etc etc sell there tv rights to the highest bidder. Simple as that.

Maybe but the Pacman v Hatton UK PPV numbers said PBF was a major reason for that 1 million buys. There is no way in hell he would of guessed he would of that much impact in the uk.

 

It was wrong for Sky to pull the rug from underneath Khan with only one week to the fight. If they did not want it on PPV then that's a decision that should be have been made long before the actual fight day.

 

Even the Maidana Morales was a quality bout in hindsight.

Imagine if GBP put every PPV on Primetime. Its easy money. Primetime could forget their commentry team etc and just use the Americans. Maybe just Buncey etc in the studio.

 

In all fairness i don't think anyone seen that fight doing the level of PPV sales or just the general crazy coverage it got over here. I sure as hell didn't. That turned into a once in a lifetime promotion. Mayweather certainly won't make that mistake again if he fights Khan

 

Not wasn't at all. Khan Vs Mccloskey was agreed to be an acceptable bout for April 16th on the condition that the undercard was also of good quality. Khan promotions failed to deliver this, as such SKY was completely justified in pulling the plug. Which turned out to be the correct decision considering the fight itself.

 

Amir Khan has an absolutely horrid team behind him. They're priming him for a fall, despite all his hard work to get back to the top. His head has become inflated and I expect poetic justice when Bradley's noggin clashes with Khan's. Try to get that big headed ******* stopped via a cut, you've got no chance.

 

Not at all! From the time Sky gave Team Khan a PPV date it was a shambles. Sky give him a date and he couldnt even find anyone to fight.

Even though Sky made a ton of $$$ from the Haye vs Audley PPV they took so much heat. I dont think it was an easy decision for them to cut Khan from PPV but it was the right move. The undercard was a joke and considering the Main event stunk with a shocking ending I bet Sky Sports executives are very happy right now. If this fight would have happened on Sky Box Office with that undercard and horrible main event they would be getting a tone of bad press right now!!

I reckon you personally would be on this forum having a right go at Sky!!

Not forgetting that Junior Witter on Saturday night confirmed that a deal for him to fight Khan was practically done but Sky said no.

Its not. They have to pay for the rights and the associated costs. Even if they use the international feed (HBO/Showtime don't have the international rights so the promotion usually get someone else in to do it) they still have to pay to advertise the thing and broadcast it live.

And again people overestimate how important live boxing from overseas is. The Maidana/Morales PPV didn't even break Sky Sports Top Ten programmes last week, meaning the live broadcast was watched by less than 125,000.

And the simple fact is that Primetime isn't interested in growing the sport. They'll pick up whatever they can but they're going to be throwing cash around to compete with Sky. Look at how they slunked away from the super six when the rumours of Froch going to Sky first surfaced. Hell we had a pretty good statement of their intent when they failed to pick up either American event last saturday to improve the value of Saturday's ppv.

And as has been pointed out Sky has bigger issues in play than just maximising their subscriptions. Perhaps Primetime do manage to come close to Sky's estimate...perhaps Sky's estimate was on the low side. Maybe Haye/Harrison has shaken their resolve in boxing ppv and its value to them - making them see that the money it raises perhaps isn't worth the reputational damage. Of course that's odd because the likes of Bunce were telling us Haye/Harrison was going to be great for the sport!

 

SKY have been **** at showing the american cards and only recently have they started to show one or two. As for the amount of fights shown in the US its always more than 2 but I dont watch the UK versions I watch the HBO or Showtime feed (whichever its on) and if you did perhaps you'd know that

SKY have never been 100% commited to boxing and if they only show interest in PPV cards its no wonder they cant get the fans to catch on. As I already said (as well as many others over the years) the sport needs a main governing body with a proper system in place to make the best fight the best
