The problem is he's not entertained unless his crushes Pacquiao and Chavez are fighting or two guys without defense meet in the ring.
no larry was actually on point with his analysis he interjected over kellerman and made some spot deep insights that eloborated the points that kellerman was making....boxing will not be the same without larry even when he's totally off and ridiculous ass its still great entertainment
I admire that he says what he wants. He has the best and most classic quotes by far. But still it's horrible listening to him try to finish a thought and it taking 30 seconds. He really should retire.
Get off floyds ****... Merchant was a massive fan of Whitaker because he fought the best & fought for the fans... he also says that Robinson & Ali are the best fighters he`s ever seen. Merchant might be a bit biased at times but he calls bull**** when he sees it, thats why he has had a few run-ins with dickbreath.
And in response to the thread title.... NO, keep Larry commentating til he dies, he`s ****ing hilarious at times.
I can't stand Merchant. What's worst is when he slowly states the obvious in some cadenced tone where it sounds like he's trying to say something important, and then he finishes and you realize he's said nothing and you're mad because he's a doddering old fool who's wasted your time yet again. HBO's whole team is terrible at times, but really, who are they going to replace him with? Showtime's commentary team is just as bad if not worse. Sky Sports and ESPN's Friday Night Fight crew don't exactly blow you away either. Who's really doing it right? Were commentators ever entertaining or informative? The only name that comes to mind is the late great Howard Cosell. Though I remember liking fighter commentary by Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman, and Roy Jones Jr. Would a commentating team made up of all former fighters work? Teddy Atlas usually ads something to a fight too.
I like Merchant. Despite him having an open hatred of most of my favourite fighter, he normally calls fights correctly and without bias from a scoring pov, add to that his hilarity and off-hand comments and casual racism and I'm more than happy to have him commentate.
