WHy would he retire? he's still the #1 HW in the world, and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. I think we may seem him fight until he's 40 or so. he said he was thinking about retiring in 2016. that means he has as many as 7-8 fights left after the Povetkin fight, assuming he doesn't lose or decide to quit before then. Wlad wanted to fight 3-4 times this year, but the fight with Povetkin got pushed back so I doubt that going to happen.. Maybe if he doesn't take a lot of damage against Povetkin, and Pulevs ready we can see him fight 1 more time in December.
As long as he can stay on top, why should he retire ? I mean, i don´t like him, as he´s boring to watch, no real fight, but why should he give up that much money he makes with every fight ?
While I wouldnt give Wlad much of a chance to beat a relevant Corrie Sanders, there was no reason whatsoever for him to rematch Purrity. He literally was beating Purrity half to death before he punched himself trying to stop the iron chinned journeyman. And in the eyes of many, including the entire HBO staff, the judges, and half the world, Lewis did not defeat every man he ever faced. And if Suleiman wasn't such a pride filled yahoo, he would have changed the result of Lennox' controversial win.:hi:
As for the OP topic...... Vitali should fight Stiverne with a CLEAR announcement prior to his fight that he will be retiring immediately should he be victorious, regardless of the way he wins it. If he loses, he might choose to fight another fight or two, simply to regain his title and retire as Champ.:think Wlad should beat Potvetkin, then look over the landscape. Who can he fight still????? Half the contenders are in the WBC vacant title sweepstakes. Another portion are jockeying for the fake WBA title. We don't even know if Haye isnt trying to lobby for a shot at that vacant title with this fight vs highly rated Fury. Chances are that after Oct 6th, Wlad will have only Pulev and a handful of nobodies, AKA Chisora/Gerber, Boystov, Jennings, Browne, etc, and that's if those guys are truly looking to fight and not just become millionaires.:rofl
