Is it time to go back to the old weigh in system?

    Yes.

A couple of years ago, Ring Magazine interviewed one of the doctors instrumental in changing it from the same day weigh-in; he said it's went too far now. Fighters are dehydrating themselves to a degree they'd never even consider if they had to fight the same day. Boxers will always cut weight but, with the current system, they know they can be a dead-man walking at the weigh-in because they have so much time to recover.

As opposed to the SHW as I am it has some advantages in that Cruiserweights wouldn't be jumping up to heavy and being so overweight they end up taking mismatch beatings of the giants like the Klitschkos.

On the otherhand the SHW division would be **** poor as there would only be a handful of top boxers and they would get even less credit than they do now.

Any restriction on rehydration is dangerous boxers health. They are under pressure to perform and will be forced to come into fights dehydrated and get hurt. As I said doctors need to step in and fail them at physical exam the day of weigh-in if they show dehydration symptoms. That will discourage them of cutting weight in the first place.

What is the most weight in percentage a fighter has come in after the official weigh in?

    JCC jr.- Middleweight 160Lbs
    In-Ring weight 181Lbs
    Re-hydration percentage of Approx. 13%.

That's pretty impressive. I'd imagine Clottey, Ortiz and Rios would have close enough %

When Clottey fought Corrales at 140lbs, didn't he rehydrate to something like 170lbs?!

    30lbs over night is mad.

You couldn't possibly re hydrate over 20%? Especially safely!!

Really is great dedication - lack of food and water - in the days coming up to the fight!!!

Apologies, it was a WW fight, he went from 149lbs to 170, same gain as Chavez last night.

I've been an advocate for same-day weigh-ins, 8 divisions and 1 belt per division since forever.

    No worries :D

Clottey beat him then with approx. 15% body 'weight gain'. That is very impressive and ridiculous at the same time!!

I don't know if he was officially weighed the day of the fight but there were claims that Hugo Cazares went from 108 to 130lbs in the Calderon fight. Considering his body-weight, that's an incredible gain. Since Calderon looked small even at 105, the size difference was almost comical.

a change to this rule would be advantageous to the current fighter of the decade.

    Why they make weight?

That isn't going to happen, same day weigh-ins did not stop it from happening, so the rules need to be in place to atleast save them from themselves by allowing both parties to recover.

Now if you want to advocate a cap on weight gain and 2 official weigh-ins, I would support that. No more than 3% weight came from 1st weigh in day before fight and the 2nd weigh in 2 hours before event.

HW is a open division, I don't understand the crying about creating a new division under it.
