    What's up Everybody?

I'm hoping you guys with experience can help me out. I'd appreciate it.

I just turned 25 years old and I've been a hug boxing fan since I was young. I've always wanted to box, but there isn't any gyms that are open anymore around where I'm from. Since i couldn't box Football became my sport, and in hs I was a running back and defensive back and I played 4 years as a defensive back in college. I feel like I need to compete in a contact sport--without competition I literally feel like I'm dying inside.

Just to give you guys an idea of what my build is like. I'm 5'9", 26" reach from the armpit to the end of the fist. My best time in the 40 yd dash was a 4.57 so I was decently fast. I did football weight training which I have continued to do, and I have awesome footwork (as far as football cornerback standards). I've been working on getting my weight down, because I want to fight somewhere between welterweight and middleweight. I've been out of football for a couple years now, but I'm dedicated to staying in shape.

With that said. In your guys opinion is it too late for me to be a great boxer? I feel like I'll do whatever it takes, but I know most greats start very young, What should I do to get started?

Also, I won't be able to get to a boxing gym for 6 months until I move. Besides working on my fitness what can I do that would help that is more boxing specific to get me ready for training? I want do as much as I can but I don't want to develop any bad habits that will just be a problem for me later. All I could think of is just conditioning and practicing on the speed bag.

Last question: Best plan to make weight as far as training, and diet? I am 170 I want to get to at least 154 lbs.

Sorrry long thread, but thanks for the help guys.

When you are 35 you will look back on this and laugh.

The better question is do you have the: genetics, heart, time, discipline and desire to do it.

to be a great pro world champion, realism ;)
to be a good amateur and maybe a semi pro seems like a good goal to aim for but you need to be very commited. but sure you can do it. im 20 and i still think i have enough time to have a good amatuer career if i learn quick enough, i havent had any bouts as yet but the i know when im older looking back i would regret it if i didnt try. go for it!

no mate, you can compete for another 10 years.
In 1-2 years you could be very fight ready, and compete happily for another 8 years.
I am younger than you, and I wasted time thinking like this!
    Onwards!
