HBO offered Mike an 8 fight $86M deal. Tyson refused to sign it unless Merchant was fired.

HBO probably thought that maybe 86 million was too much for Mike anyway. If Mike was the young Tyson of 1986 and fighting as great as he did then, they would have fired Merchant. Great fighters like Mike of 1986 are hard to find, but commentators are everywhere.

pretty sure tyson was leaving hbo for showtime for more money. merchant doesnt make hbo a dime so y would they choose him over a guy that makes u millions. at this point if mayweather threatens 2 leave 4 shotime, larry will be let go

he made more money, but how much did he make with those 8 fights compared to the previous 8 and was he as great a fighter? HBO did have a standard. Mike was great in his prime, but they knew that if they matched him tough he could lose again after 1991 or later.

when you turn down 86 million if your demand to fire a person who works for the company isnt met...then yes, they chose merchant over tyson....showtime was a zero factor back then.....and never would have had the chance to make an offer..and none of you dumb ****s know of an offer that was made by showtime...the ball would have been in their court obviously by then

I find this EXTREMELY hard to believe. Showtime must have came in with a 100 million dollar deal that made up Tyson's mind for him. Believing that HBO was willing to sacrifice millions just so they can keep paying Merchants salary? I don't think so.
