Just a year before he had weighed less than 160 pounds. It's a miracle he was even standing in the ring. He had great genetics and was in even better condition in his prime.

Look at a prime Williams and compare it to this version. This Williams was slow, plodding with no reflexes. He barely threw a punch when in his prime he would triple up the left hook effortlessly. Even Ali himself said that the win proved nothing to the public.

A lot of people missing the point.

The point is that if he used a reasonable diet he could have been better. Do you agree?

The first point of the thread was actually a question.

George had something to say about this, during his comeback George related how at one point he had reduced his weight into the mid 220's in the gym, but he started to feel like the younger George, mean and irritated, and he didn't like it at all. From there on he stayed at a weight he was comfortable at.

    I'm not 12 Pete.
Maybe frazier wasn't shot when he first met foreman, but he was not at all the fighter he was 68-71.. that version loses to foreman too, but my as badly, for sure.
and Frazier wasn't in peak condition anyways

They were doing all sorts of wacky stuff with foreman. Ever see him doing ballet? They had him moving around like ballet dancer in ring back in 1970's. They thought his arms were too big, and that was reason for him geting tired, so Gil Clancy wanted Foreman to stop hitting heavy bag completely, he thought that gave foreman overly big biceps. I am not kidding.

Willimas condition after shooting was widely reported in many papers and boxing magazines, he was not considered to be able to return to ring. When he did, he was no longer what he had been. Some myths about how great he was before shooting came up over years, he was very good, but not that outstanding in ring, his physique was what caught a lot of attention.

He did not belong in ring with any champ night he fought Ali.

When you ask "Is it true that they had Foreman on a vegetarian type diet early in his career" are you saying that you read or heard this somewhere or are you just guessing something? I have never heard this before.

Jazzo my friend, to answer the original question posed in your thread, yes, George was in fact on a vegetarian diet at times in his career. I have one of his cookbooks, and in the intro, he explains that throughout his entire career, and even now in his life, he goes on a strictly vegetarian diet for a few months out of every year and then goes back to eating meat. He feels as though it has contributed to not only his boxing career, but overall healthy lifestyle.

Williams was further off his peak than Frazier was though. Besides Foreman would always have had Frazier's number. Style thing,as is often said.

:thinkHmmm...How do you suppose "mean and irritated" would have served him in competition against opponents like Stewart, Morrison and Briggs? (Not that he should have done this. He has made a fortune by changing his persona, but it raises interesting questions about his second career boxing potential.)
