This primal force of nature and almost a demi god phsyically, i heard, was afraid very often, and lewis's comments made me remember that... is it true that he was often afraid of opponents?
If I understand it right, Tyson was afraid in the same way a caged animal is, which then strikes furiously when cornered.
All boxers are afraid to a certain degree of fighting. If a fighter says he isn't, he is either lying or not fighting top level comp.
yes, im aware of that... theres a differance between feeling nervous and scared, and the fear that you guys know im talking about though... theres a differance between being scared and nervous in the moment, and being scared of your opponent. Ive heard a few times tyson was scared of his opponents...
Which is what I am saying.....he was afraid of his opponents and thus lashed out at them. Remember, he was a kid fighting grown men.
"Im scared everytime I step in the ring, but sometimes you just have to bite down on your mouthpiece and say 'lets go'"
Well then its hard to say: Maybe Tyson was just nervous, or maybe he was scared- the difference between the two is entirely subjective so its difficult to say. Its all dependant on his personal experience as a fighter. Any fighter who steps into the ring may be experiencing his last moment of life as he knows it, and the human instinct and feeling that accompanies that is undeniable, whether we call it being nervous or fearful.
No sane man doesn't have some fear when facing a fight with a 6'5" 240lb guy who has trained to fight. How you use those nerves is one of the things that separates champs and the rest of us.
