Cotto's TopRank promotional contract expired after the second Margarito fight, if Cotto had signed a new one then it would have been announced, so without doubt the man is a free agent.

Now TopRank with what I'd assume is a top class legal team, and with Bob Arum being a trained and registered Lawyer himself, should probably be able to work out that sueing a Free agent for signing a contract, would not be a very smart legal move.

After a decade of relationship with Top Rank, company that brought an amateur, Cotto became a free agent last December 31 and thereby won the opportunity to be your own handler.
However, sources close to this newspaper revealed that Cotto's contract, as in that of all the fighters of Top Rank, where there is a clause in the event of an injury to the boxer, the agreement is frozen until the fighter resume its preparation.
