Is Jake Shields an HOF calibre fighter?

Obviously not UFC HOF, but say there was a general International HOF for MMA like there is in boxing, then these guys would obviously be in there:

    Fedor
    Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
    Anderson Silva
    GSP
    Penn
    Wanderlei Silva
    Dan Henderson
    Chuck Liddell
    Mirko Crocop
    Matt Hughes
    Randy Couture
    ...
    etc etc

Do you view Jake Shields as on his way to join this elite group when he retires, or do you think Jake is still some way short of this status?

    Shields's career summary

    Titles

2004 - won Shooto middleweight title

2006 - won ROTR welterweight title

2008 - won EliteXC welterweight title

2009 - won Strikeforce middleweight title

    Major wins

    Sakurai
    Okami
    Condit
    Pyle
    Daley
    Lawler
    Miller
    Henderson
    Kampmann

    Achievements

15-fight winning streak from 2004-2011, fighting in numerous different organizations, fighting successfully at both welterweight and middleweight, a highlight being outgrappling ATG Dan Henderson at middleweight, and the run was only ended by ATG Georges St Pierre, Shields losing but being the first man to take rounds off GSP on the cards for quite some time.

    Thoughts? :bbb

Not there yet but close. A few more quality wins or a UFC title and he's in on my books.

Shields is made of the right stuff to get there eventually.

    Yes...

But 170lbs is all wrong for him! HE needs to get out of that silly contract and move to 185lbs!

I'd rather see him at 185 as well. Some fascinating fights for him there (Maia, Anderson Silva, Mayhem rematch).

Yeah Shields should have stuck to his guns on going to middleweight - Silva is a better (not a good mind you) stylistic matchup for him than St. Pierre

He finds it way too hard to make weight it would seem...

I disagree, I believe Silva would have stopped him.

Then you don't disagree. I think Silva would have stopped him BUT Shields would have a clear route to victory i.e. takedown and control, outside chance of submission. Against GSP, Shields he never had a chance of winning due to St. Pierre's wrestling and striking advantage. As I quite clearly said Silva is not a good stylistic matchup for Shields, just a better one than GSP.

There's no evidence for this really. He screwed up his weight cut against Kampmann by cutting from too high a weight but seemed fine against GSP. He is a natural welterweight by UFC standards but lacks the wrestling to impose his game on the likes of Fitch or Koscheck, let alone GSP.

Anderson's JJ is among the best, I think Shields subbing GSP would be more likely, but not very in either case. What is likely is Shields getting KOd by Anderson

    Sigh.

Firstly, I said he had an outside chance of submitting Silva. I too don't think he would that.

Secondly, exactly how could he submit GSP if he can't get the fight to the ground?

Ok there is not point in further discussing outside chances

No I understand it well, you think that it is more likely that Shields could submit Silva than TD GSP in a 5 rnd fight, but both are unlikely

I think I phrased it better
