I know it's a weak division but Boxing Monthly have him in at no.9 in their top 10 light-middleweight rankings. Do you think he'll eventually make the step up to middleweight?
C'mon fella it doesn't exactly have fighters that set the heathens alight now does it? Forrest, Santos, Spinks, Mora, Alcine, Dzinziruk....not for me matey.
Dzinziruk, Santos, Forrest, Martinez, Spinks, Mora, Alcine, Angulo, Kirkland, Mean Joe Greene, Ronald Hearns to name a few. It's a solid division man.
Fair enough it's just not the division for me at the moment. But I am following Kirkland and Angulo's careers with interest.
I would say more top 15. He still needs the big name to reach top 10 for me. I would put bundrage, Yuri Foreman and probably Angulo along with the obvious ones ahead of him i think he's around 12 to 15.
Definately a fringe contender, but I dont give him much of a chance to win a title, ive seen nothing but power and it takes more at world level, maybe he needs more time but he can be out boxed, Williams, Dizi, Santos and faded Forrest all beat him. I dot agree that it is a weak division.
154 is shaping up tp be a pretty good division. Jst because there aren't any famous names does not mean it's ****. The talent is there, and the fighters are there. If anyone needs to be told who's good, then perhaps they need to do more homework.
154 is a very decent division.... Forrest - is not totally shot yet Dzinz - could very well be the best of the bunch and is a good fighter Spinks - Barely lost to jermain Taylor at middleweight, and again, is a good fighter Santos - should not be underestimated, very solid fighter Martinez - ive only seen him a few times now but looks like trouble for anybody Kirkland - is a hot prospect Angulo - is a hot prospect Williams - fights there here and there Mora - Has proven himself to be more then a contender, not my cup of tea but hes decent enough to not be overlooked... imo loses to everyone on the list if they show up at their best Dont know anything about Alcine Hearns but if there is a most underrated division in boxing, its 154... ya it doesnt have the names or fighters of a lot of divisions like 147, 135, ect... but its a solid division regardless. That being said... i would want to see the 10 Fighters people put in front of Kirkland to place him outside of it... im not saying he should be in the top 10 based off what hes done, but the thing is youd have to place 10 fighters in front of him at this point which can be done... but i think it does get a bit hairy at the end and allows kirkland to slip in if one wanted to do so. Guys like Bunema Roman Phillips Though i suppose SHOULD be ranked above him (bunema for his win over roman, roman for him being champ and beating ouma, phillips for 'beating' spinks) they are def on the slide down the rankings with their recent losses... but i have to still AT THIS POINT rank them higher then kirkland, but Roman is cutting it close... its been almost 4 years since he beat Ouma and was recently knocked out by Bunema.... so although these things are pretty mild, i still cant help but think it still has more value then what kirklands been doing, not saying he hasnt been beating decent fighters, but their still not on romans level imo. BECAUSE Forrest Dziz Mora Martinez Santos Williams Spinks Phillips Roman Bunema Angulo maybe should be ahead of him.... I dont know... i dont think its a crime to have Kirkland at number 9 or 10... but i could understand also not having him on there.
he reminds me abit like Gamboa in which they are physically strong and have lightning fast reflexes to overwhelm there opponents with, but they haven't faced a name or proven fighter yet. but they sure have potential
