He would of been, had he stayed clean. You cannot rate him IMO, because just do not know when he was on the juice for certain.

This is so obvious I nearly didn't even bother to vote...

Ok then, YES he is. He's top 50 ATG, could've been ranked even higher but for the lack of discipline.

As good as Tony was, he lost to Dave Tiberi. Tiberi was so upset, he never fought again out of disgust for the sport.

I also thought McCallum won the first two fights with Toney.

Yeah easily. Great technique and a very good resume.
However I feel very uncomfortable saying anything positive about a known drug cheat. He was caught late in his career but if your dishonest enough to take drugs then, then your dishonest enough to take them at any time in your career. His whole career is suspect to me.

That's true, as much as I hate it, it's a fact he lost to Tiberi. He was dead ill that night tho and should've called the fight off. Well, Toney got robbed a couple of times himself, so it shouldn't really tarnish his resume...

Yes. His career at 160 and 168, the level and opposition he beat at those weights alone put him top 100.

When you factor in his comeback to win the Cruiser belt over Jirov, his old school, fight every month resume, and skills the likes of which we may NEVER see in boxing again (because noone is teaching them), Toney is clearly inside the best 100.

Watching Toney was like being able to sit in 1991 and feel like you were watching a boxer in 1930. How many guys can you say that about?

For all the fat jokes and rips this guy gets, he is the last of a breed--the word throwback gets tossed around too much, but Toney was truly that--cut from a different era.

Like Brett Favre, even if you hate the Packers, if you don't love Brett Favre, you don't like football. If you don't love James Toney's skill, you just don't like boxing.
