Quartey and Whitaker fights were so close, that I understand where peeps are coming from if they don't have these fights for Oscar, but because I personally do, he's higher on my rankings than these people who say 'he lost'
All you guys take into account is win win win win win. Thats what you expect from somebody with 90 fights? His heavyweight sting was very good. Should have beat sam peter, beat ruiz, an other solid fighters. The point is HE SHOULDNT HAVE EVEN BEEN IN THE HEAYWEIGHT DIVISION. He was a sloppy bloated past prime 5'9 former middleweight. They couldnt even knock him out
for me yes, but not by the HOF criteria im going on his fighting style alone who dont love watching prime and even past prime toney fights
Vargas and Quartey are not that big of fights but sure let's keep them. Clear losses (Mosley I was close but Mosley won) floyd hopkins mosley I Pacquiao Clear victories (the Quartey fight was pretty close) Vargas Quartey Trinidad Mosley II Unclear Whitaker Basically we have 4-4-1(unclear) with two fights that aren't with ATG fighters (maybe you can argue Quartey). Oscar messed up the latter part of his career badly. He once said that partying and drinking alcohol shortened his career by at least 4 years.
I really really like James Toney and maybe I'm being a bit harsh but lacking a win over an ATG in their prime is what makes me hesitant to say he's more than a very accomplished Hall of Famer. But then again, if I used that criteria alone to bar access, Mayweather and Chavez wouldn't be ATG's and that's dumb. If you beat enough HOFers and a near-prime great or two spanning over impressive weight jumps, you'll make it. And Toney has done just that. Voting yes!
DLH wasn't crucified? he catches **** for it today. look at the post i'm quoting. he won enough rounds, and thats what counts
on first thought he is, but then when you match him with most ATG fighters I can see him lose. But he has the resume of a top fighter.. HOF yes and probably ATG to p100, but not near the top like 50 which is what I think your poll was going for. I love James and one of the best skilled fighters around.
wins over quartey, chavez, whitaker, hernandez, ruelas, vargas, and only losing to trinidad and a roided up Mosley in his prime is pretty damned good
Of course, he was before the climb in weight too. Seriously, I don't understand some posters around here. And to equate Toney's win over Holyfield with Calzaghe's win over Jones is careless. A fighter not only has to have ATG skill to make a jump like he did, you have to have supreme confidence and BALLS the size of grapefruits. People really don't recognize the difference or is it some weird message board turf battle thing?
I love how you overturn some of Oscar wins but you don't mention Oscar-Tito fight. You can not only go one way.
