Is James Toney still doing any mma training?

    The problem with the Shamrock v Toney fight wasn't the Mickey Mouse company putting it together. It was the Mickey Mouse fight. Toney has no place in the octagon.

    As much as I would like to agree with you he did actually train MMA prior to the fight. I watched vids of him training with Kenpo legend Trevor Sherman and they did all the drills. But how much can you learn in such short a time? Particularly when the bout was a money grab for Toney anyway.

    Trevor Sherman? Is that supposed to make his training legit? Would have been better off training with a high school wrestling team.

    Like many MMArtists Sherman is a legend within his own particular style. Why Toney chose him to learn UFC skills from I'm not sure. Just saying though that I did see vids of the pair training UFC style drills prior to Toney's UFC debut. So Toney didn't just go in having only trained in boxing.

    Yeah, he trained another striking based martial art. That might work for someone like Chuck Liddell who had a wrestling background, but it isn't going to work for someone that has zero grappling ability and has been boxing at a world class level most of their life. He should have done nothing but wrestling.

    The American Kenpo Sherman trains isn't just a striking art. It includes ground fighting. I'm not going to try and claim the ground fighting is suitable for UFC though. But Toney's biggest problem was the short timeframe he had to learn skills other MMArtists learnt as teenagers. Make no mistake about it though, I'm glad he got his ass handed to him :good
