He is getting the Danny Garcia treatment. Might be because of the name Swift. Hurd is solid and he listens to his corner.
He’s gonna have his haters due to the size. Just the way boxing is. Personally, I think he gonna stomp on Jermell
I don’t buy this “weight bully” stuff. He makes weight and is within the allowed limit the next day. He’s playing by the same rules as everyone else.
Every aspect of his boxing game seems legal to me and he's doing what he feels he needs to at this time. I have no problem with that but to say that he's not big for 154 is to reject the evidence of my own eyes.
It's a figure of speech, not necessarily an indictment. The weight-bully is just another type of fighter you can expect to find at a given weightclass. It takes all kinds.
Hurd did an AMA on reddit (not sure how this forum feels about linking to other forums but it's easy enough to look up) and said that he starts his camp at 170 max and tries not to cut more than 10lbs- so his fight night weight is about 164 according to him. I don't really trust the "eye test" for something that can be measured on a scale but to me he doesn't look particularly drained when he weighs in? Based on the evidence we have he is not actually any heavier than his opponents at 154. Lara is usually mid-160s too right?
I think people consistently overestimate the weight of guys with big shoulders, skinny legs and a v-shaped torso. This reminds me a bit of Joshua v Parker where the whole narrative is how Joshua is the much bigger man even though the weight difference is negligible and they are both in shape (and their range of weights is about the same give or take 5lbs). Guys with that upper-body shape are actually smaller (narrow waist, thin torso) while simultaneously looking bigger (small waist and thin torso creates the illusion of even bigger shoulders) which I think creates this confusion. See also- Deontay Wilder. Guys with a thicker waist (not fat but actually thicker bone structure) tend to look smaller than v-shaped guys while actually being bigger.
