That's not what I read if I understand your point ... MY understanding is that this was shot live from a different location in the arena ...

 

No. It wasnt. Its a film of a movie screen showing the fight film. In fact during parts of the film it pans over to the side slightly and you can see the edge of the screen.

 

INteresting ... I don't doubt that you have access to info I don't but I can say in everything I have ever read this is described as a second version including the Fight Book study I posted which is pretty comprehensive ...

 

I think there actually was a second version filmed from a different angle by competitors at the actual fight. BUT, the film that exists today was not that version. It is a bootleg film shot inside a movie theatre showing the official version of the fight. For years I believed, like you, that it was filmed ringside, but another film historian pointed out several things to me which set me straight, not the least of which was the fact that when you watch the most complete version (which runs about 10 mins or so) you can see film occasionally pan to one side a little too far showing the edge of the movie screen that the original film is being projected on. You can also see the top of the screen for much of the fight.

A documentary I saw used this same footage. If the real footage does exist, it's not online or anything like that. It's probably in someones basement.

I have the photos, and about 100 never before seen fight photos on my other PC/Server, which is not hooked up right now. One of the best things about old films the freeze frame. Frozen at the right moment, I captured some fantastic photos with my digital camera.

Thats just a poster advertising the original film housed in the library. Not the actual film itself.
