Is JMM in a similiar situation to Hopkins after his fights with JT?

What i mean by that is that there was controversy after the Hopkins/JT fights amongst boxing fans and although Hopkins lost both fights, Hopkins seemed to lose no level of respect despite the two "L" on his record because a lot of fans thought Hopkins outboxed JT in both fights. So many still considered him the real champ despite the losses.

Is JMM in a similiar situation in the sense that in both fights, a good deal of boxing fans thought that he won both fights and that although he has a "D" and an "L" next to his record, the real fans don't really focus on that but focus on the fact that they think he won these fights and that their respect for JMM is even greater than it was before?

It'll be funny if he does the samething Hopkins did, go up 2 weight classes and fight the lineal champ there and win.

    Marquez vs. Hatton

Marquez actually has a good shot!

Just read that WBC Pres. Jose Sulaiman is looking at a third fight between JMM and Pac, because it was a very close fight, controversy, and the last minute judge appointed by the Nevada Boxing Commish, etc. If that fight happens, then it's great news for the fans.

I was also thinking about how history treat fighters who got the short end of a decision.

I think in the case of little known guys, any short end decision hurts as they are not known to begin with. For instance, Ike Quartey getting the short end against DLH hurt him. Had he gotten the decision, it would've been huge for Quartey. On the other end, i think DLH losing that fight would've only had people saying, "no big deal, he fights everyone to begin with".

But in the case of ATG fighters, getting the short end of a decision can help you. Look at the Whitaker/Chavez fight. Everyone still knows about that one and how he was completely robbed. And while Whitaker's record reads an "L" for that fight, most fans who know realize that he won.

I hope history treats JMM/Pacquio the same way.

Chavez-Whitaker can hardly be compared to JMM-Pac...

I'm a HUGE fan of Hopkins and i scored the first fight for Jermain Taylor. I don't even like Jermain Taylor.

I also scored both JMM-Pac fights for Pacquiao by 1 point.

the true fans don't always score the fight for their fighter. True fans also recognize that if a fight is very close with many close rounds then it can tip either way.

Shitty fans are the ones who take credit away from the sport when their fighter loses a close one and then say that judges suck and think that for someone to be a real fan he must think the same way.

I'm a huge fan of Hopkins also and i scored it 6-5-1 for JT in the first one. I had it 7-5 for Hopkins in the 2nd one. But i will openly admit that i think Hopkins outboxed JT in both fights in the sense that he was more accurate when he threw, showed much better ring generalship and defense.

I'm not even a JMM or Pacquiao fan. But i do know that there was a poll started on this board which asked who won the fight and i think about 60% thought JMM won the fight. That's saying A LOT.

    this poll?

anyways even if 60% thought Marquez won and not less than 50% as is the case, that wouldn't make the ones who think Marquez won the real fans as opposed to the ones who thought Pacquiao won.

And your post only proves one thing. That the fight was very close. It's just a shame someone had to get the short end of the stick.

Dude, please get the word "robbed" out of here. I never said anything about a robbery. I just said that JMM got the short end of a close fight. I hope you realize the difference. That's why i brought up the JT/Hopkins example.

    Exactly.

A fighter who comes back off the canvas to win the fight deserves respect off everybody.
