Chavez fought cans for the early part of his career. I don't see many great wins on his resume.

And slightly ahead of Sanchez...Ruben at his peak was a MONSTER.

I'd also have Morales and Barrera ahead of Zarate.

Olivares or Sanchez... extremely close call. I'd need to think about that one.

I too have both MAB and Morales above Zarate though.

In his early part of his career, but he also fought and beat 16 world champions, and top contenders of his respective weight classes. 27 sucessful title defenses (record for the most), the most knockouts in title fights (21) and most title fights in the history of the sport (37)

JCC's resume is solid. He took on the best available in his era.

Chavez of course! And there are still a few Mexicans above Marquez if you rule him out.

    1. Julio Cesar Chavez
    2. Salvador Sanchez
    3. Ruven Olivares
    4. Vicente Saldivar
    5. Marco Antonio Barrera
    6. Erik Morales
    7. Carlos Zarate
    8. Miguel Canto
    9. Juan Manuel Marquez
    0. Ricardo Lopez

Something like that. After Erik Morales, it all gets very tight.

In terms of ability, I think Olivares was the greatest Mexican ever. But Chavez's career accomplishments and Sanchez's best wins/performances muddy the waters a little over who is the greatest of the three.

Sal Sanchez and JCC will be ranked a lot higher atg. They are both top 30 while JMM will be top 80-100

I was thinking about this. I haven't seen enough Zarate's fights but it should be close. Also I'm always wondering if Sanchez or JCC is the top dog. JCC was a lot longer with a lot of title defenses and so on. But Sanchez has such great wins for such a short career. And he has this defining win against top ATG opponent
