is JMM the most underated fighter of this era?

Nah....he gets mad respect given his preformances with PAC and MAB. It was hard to give him props before b/c he was having troubles landing Big fights. But when he did he preformed very well and with lesser opposition he dominated. So he has a legitimate and warranted perception of his career and where he stands.

You can say he was, but I don't think he's that underrated seeing as how people still rank him above Pacquiao because they thought he won.. I, for one, think he's a very talented boxer with some of the best tech skills in boxing.. Pac will never fight anybody as hard as JMM.. He's ranked in my top 5 and also The Ring's top 5.. So no, I don't think he's underrated much at all..

He was very underated a few years ago, but not anymore...I don't think so anyway.

I think most people would have him in their P4P top five; I do.

yea, but "era" is not necessarily just now. jmm's popularity may be rising, but it's not where it should be.
also, with a lot of people having pac p4p #1, a spot in the top 5 is just not enough. even if he lost both fights closely, the margin between him and pac is kinda non existent - he definetely deserves to be ranked above calzaghe (and not many people do).
also, casamayor doesn't get enough credit. not only for beating katsidis, i think he received proper credit for that, but for no reason (maybe because of his loud mouthedness in combination with his not straight forward style) he's just not treated well enough either. so, if jmm should beat him (and i'm not too sure he does), it still won't help him much, i fear.

I just think for Pac to be pfp #1, and JMM (who I thought at the very least deserved a draw in the second fight, if not the win) to be #5, seems a bit unjust.

Bad luck, bad management and the lack of a crowd pleasing style have all kept this great boxer in the shadows.

What do you mean underrated? By the fans? By boxings scribes?

    Or here in ESB?

Indeed.. Especially after turning down the rematch with Pac after their first fight to go fight Chris John instead.. Is he underrated by ESB? Certainly not.. He's looked at as an extrememly good boxer and one of the best.. In the world? Maybe, but if he beats Casamayor, then his stock will probably rise high in America & perhaps more in Mexico..

They will say Casamayor was past his best and they'd be right, but even a prime Joel gets ouboxed by Marquez.

Juan Manuel Marquez was underrated from 2000-2005. During that time, he would have been competitive with Morales, Barrera, and would have boxed Naseem's head off just as Barrera did. He deserved to be mentioned alongside those fighters, but he wasn't during that time. On that basis, he has been underrated for the majority of his career.
