Yes, Casa is passed his days, but I think a prime Casa could beat JMM.. Well, JMM was underrated back in those days, but because of his bad management, it caused him to stay under the radar.. He was never mentioned along with Morales & Barrera.. But like I said, if he would've took that rematch against Pac after the first fight, he wouldn't have been underrated as much.. Is he, however, not underrated anymore, but you're right.. He was underrated for much of his early career...
Prime Casamayor vs Juan Manuel Marquez is a competitive bout as Joel was a world class operator, but I pick Marquez over most. For me, Juan Manuel Marquez is far and away the best fighter in the world today.
chris john is very underated. he is a good fighter who beat marquez, yet gets no props on esb at all.
JMM has been underrated throughout his career, but he has now reached #3 in The Ring's p4p rankings and he deserves that, so no I don't think he can be called THE most underrated boxer of his era. I would suggest Winky Wright or Antonio Margarito, who have never scaled those P4P heights to the same extent.
Juan Manuel Marquez won that fight in my eyes, and also a lot of others. John could have lost every round and won in his own backyard, let's be real.
i watched it twice. the ref deducted a point late on that was unfair. even so ,i saw no robbery i had john winning without the point dedcuctions. marquez could not solve john out and was outhustled in the fight.
I think him and Winky Wright. Both guys could beat pretty much anyone in their weight class in their prime but not too many people will remember them. Heck, Winky hasn't fought in a year and he's already out of the picture it seems. And JMM was probably just as good as Morales and Barrera but will he be remembered like they were?
There is a select few boxing Journalist that covered JMM and MAB when they were young prospects fighting for what was then Forum boxing, at the Forum, the old home of the Los Angeles Lakers. Most of those that followed JMM back then, know of his quality and rate him rather highly, alot even higher than MAB, and Morales. Those that followed JMM back then I believe dont underrate him, and know of his struggles to land a fight against a fighter that was avoiding him in Haseem Hamed. In any regard, here at ESB more posters than not from what I have read, are of the opinion that prime for prime MAB and Morales are a notch above JMM. ....so to them, I think they highly underrate JMM. Quite simply, MAB and Erik Morales got very comfortable fighting eachother, that they dare not let a fighter who alot of print journalist back then considered the biggest threat in the featherweight division in on the loop. My opinion is that JMM beats both a prime MAB and Erik Morales. Thats my opinion, but I will say to those that dont believe that JMM belongs in there mention, they are highly underrating him!
I don't think people underrate him any more, especially not after his last performance againts Pacquiao.
jmm is actually over-rated right now... both cotto and vasquez should be above him in the p4p list. his resume isn't impressive w/ just a win against a past it mab plus a draw and a lost to pac. he's rated too highly on his skills alone but doesn't have the resume to back it up. it's all about getting the job done and generally he hasn't.
let him fight in the US, against the top dogs of featherweight like linares or even gamboa and beat 'em.. in that way he'll be able to prove his worth and he could get his props
