Ive been telling everyone this for the last year and it is just now catching on. Guzman since 2004 has not scored a KO in any of his fights. He carries little power in his hands, has a poor workrate, fights in spurts, and relies on his reflexes (something I have always thought foolish) to avoid punches. Agaisnt Humberto Soto he lost rounds on my card due to him throwing about 20 punches around and being content to let Soto chase him around the ring. He showed little ring generalship however, getting caught on the ropes and using a guard to avoid punches, same with getting caught in corners. Agaisnt a fighter who threw straight punches and had some timing, he would have fared much worse His defense is essentially nonexistant, a solid and generally quick boxer would find him easy to hit. His best days were at 122, when he held a size advantage and actually had some power. Since then his fights have been decision and he has fought no elite level competition. Barring the Soto and Barrio victories, who are both limited fighters to begin with, he has yet to face a versatile fighter at 130, let alone 135. Barrios gave him a decent fight much like Soto did by simply being the busier and more argressive fighter. And Barrios for all his mettle and brawling style, he is not a very skilled fighter. A refined brawler. I expect Nate Campbell to find him an easy target to hit, realize that he has poor ring generalship, and outscore him in a UD that will be quite surprising to many.
Yes. He is overrated. The guy who is presumed by many to be the conqueror of Pacman, Nate, etc. without throwing a punch, the champ at 135 lbs without a single fight in this division.
GuzRUN is not a real fighter, he is more on showboating inside the ring... Running around from sart to end.. like a rooster..
Easy to hit? Interesting... I have to say, MJ, there are some pretty bold and blanketed statements being made here. I'll be thinking of some of these comments next weekend. Apart from some of this sounding a little bit "controversial" it seems quite thin. I guess we'll see.
we'll find out more this saturday if he loses, then the facts will just say what it is, Guzman's best win is against Soto
YES, and guzman huggers are going overboard proclaiming him as their own HOF if he wins in devastating fashion though on saturday night i'll eat my own share of crow
I have followed his career for some time. I have watched all his televised fights. He has been matched with fighters that suited his style perfectly, but he has yet to fight a decent boxer. He keeps his hands low and is just ripe for being countered. I feel I will be vindicated Saturday. Campbell is not going to troubled by his movement. Campbell is the bigger and stronger fighter and more skilled. People mistake Guzman's quickness as him being some incredible defensive fighter. He isnt. He leans backwards and when cornered just covers up. And that works great against Jorge Barrios who throws nothing but hooks and against Soto who has slow hands and does nothing but come straight foward. He is ripe for a fall.
He's probably going to be an overrated lightweight, he was a ****ing monster at FW and decent at SFW. But he definitley depends on reflexes so I'm not sure how much he can have left in the tank.
I thunk he's more unproven than over rated. He is clearly a talented boxer but needs to be matched up with the best before I can form a decisive opinion.
he should of definatley stayed at featherweight where i believe he would of ruled the division and a match up with linares would of been mouth watering he relies on his reflexes as some have said and i feel as he gets a little older he will decline because he just will not be able to get away with his style and will get caught
Alright, well I can see that this is a long campaign you've been on. We will see, indeed. I've got to say though, this just sounds like unfounded empty criticism to me. You're generically ripping this guy, that's all I'm getting. You clearly don't like the dude. We'll see if you're right, eh?
