I definitely agree that he was underrated. Was he the MOST underrated ? To answer that would require quite a bit of research.

    Hi Fergy.
You are correct in stating Bugner wasn't popular after the Cooper fight, mind you it was Gibbs that scored for Joe ( 73.75 / 73.5 seems so antiquated now ) so the public's blame should be on the refs shoulders in reality, also there was a small amount of the Lennox Lewis syndrome sorry to say, some viewed Bugner by default of being born in Hungary a foreigner, where by our Henry was by this time a british institution, so that thought process played its part in the framing of Bugner in the eyes of fight fans in England, also whilst undoubtedly being a brave and stout chinned fighter, he flattered to deceive, time and again we would shout at our screens for him to fight, but he was content to box within himself, just do enough, he could punch when he had a mind to ( Dunn ) but he seemed to coast a lot of the time, thing was we wanted him to succeed, he was a likeable bloke out of the ring, educated personable and friendly, I have spoke to him on occasions and he could never understand the public's dislike of him, he wished it could have been different, he was and remains an enigma to a degree, Lewis apart not many british HWs would have the better of him, sham he wasn't appreciated more by the fans and public alike.
    stay safe buddy, chat soon.
    Mike.
