I would say that Michalczewski's win over Hill was more special, as Hill was still at his absolute peak at 33 years of age, and a two-belt champion (remember, he held a title into his 40's).

Hopkins though, was unquestionably several steps back of his 2001 self when Calzaghe beat him.

I think Calzaghe proved all he could at the peak of his career. I have never been a real fan of JC, but I do give him credit for taking the best fights he could find at the height of his career. It's not his fault that better fighters weren't available to him. I do think he is a special fighter in the fact that he can adapt to anything and find a way to win(usually with activity). Not a big fan, but you go Joe!!!!!!! Great fighter, IMO.

 

Lots of revisionists regarding the Calzaghe/Eubank fight but Joe struggled with Eubank (and he was past it). He caught right hands with his face and landed little of consequence after the first few rounds.

If (that version of) Eubank could catch him easily, Hopkins could make him look amateurish at 43, then prime Roy would have left him counting the stars without much trouble at all.

Not the first time he expressed as much, but in conversation with Jay Briggsy on 03/08/06 Eubank said:

"Listen, Calzaghe is easy to hit with right hands. He's busy enough, fast handed southpaw but he's abit European, quite square and rigid, you know? He's far from unhittable, infact he's easy to hit with the right (hand).
