What? ......a Calzaghe thread on ESB?

I would say yes. But exactly 100. Exactly, damn you.

He doesn't quite make it into my personal one I don't think. I don't have a list, but I don't think of Joe as a top 100 fighter. He was the best supermiddle of the decade and had a good run, but this sport has been going for over 100 years, and for me he just didn't beat good enough opponents to be considered top 100 of all-time, too many have done more than he did. IMO.

Yea id say he is, the SMW division wasnt the strongest during his time but he did dominate it nicely and did fairly well at LHM but he didnt fight elite prime fighters and that goes against him, not totally his fault though since the only two around at the time were hopkins (he did try to get him) and jones

Never made a top ATG list. The only credible one I've seen on this board was made by DINAMITA. I would imagine he would most likely make the lower levels of a top 100 list. Based on achievements probably the best super middle weight of all time. I also think he's a nightmare style match up for fighters at 168. Very intelligent, great footwork, throws punches from awkward angles and fantastic stamina.

yes, he is the best super middle weight in history, a new division maybe but its only fair. the fact he dominated that division for over 10 years speaks volume.

His ability belongs there but the resume is way too poor so I voted no.

If you like. It gets so soft from around 90 down that you can make the case if you want to. When I did a hundred I excluded him but he was in the 30-40 guys who didn't quite make it in. If you want a number i'd bet on around 115, but I don't think having him around 95 would be the worst thing in the world.

    No higher than that though.

Too difficult to assess. It is perhaps easier to rank Joe as:

Top 3 British fighter of all time
Top 3 Super middleweight of all time

Like people have said, probably Greatest Super Middleweight of All Time. Not sure he makes Top 100.
To be honest everyone seems to be talking about All Time Greatest lists nowadays, and nominating there favourite boxers from the past decade or so. But to be honest there have only been a handful of boxers in this era who would make Top 100 ATG in my opinion. There have been too many GREAT boxers over the years who people forget, or havn't heard of before, who had a harder time in the sport, fighting conditions, training facilities etc. They fought more regularly for little money, whereas the sport is mostly money orientated nowadays.

He's not a top 3 British fighter of all time. Given that Welsh, Wilde and Driscoll also hail from Wales, he probably isn't even a top 3 Welsh fighter of all time.

im of the opinion of essexboy in that he is probably just outside. Im sure some people on this thread will be really harsh towards Calzaghe like a certain poster above me (who only comments on Calzaghe) and others will look favourably upon Calzaghe. I cant really make a proper judgement as my heart says just inside the top 100 and my head says just outside.
