Well regardless to the fact that the best fighters fight in America; all they are doing is living in their comfort zone, can they prove their selfs out of the US were atmosphere is greater and hostility is much more apparent?

Yes - Calzaghe should be considered an All Time Great. His twentyone defenses at smw are quite an accomplishment and he was able to secure the win over two of his contemporary legends - Hopkins and Jones. For the record - I had Hopkins winning against Joe and think they should rematch before they retire.

There have been bad decisions in every country that has ever had a sanctioned boxing match. Broad generalizations like this are poor viewpoints to have my friend. There are disrespectfull and ignorant fans and observers of all kinds in every country.

Define what an "All time great" as distinct from a Hall of Famer.

    At what weight?

    What's the criteria?

He is an All Time Great Welshman.

168 pounds isn't a division steeped in history, a lot of old school historians only evaluate those types of weights by amalgamating them into Middle and Light heavy.

There are far too many superior fighters at both weights to consider Joe an "ATG" - He's a first ballot HoF, it doesn't mean he sucks, but he's not an all time great.

Not many fighters these days are in my opinion.

I'm an American, of course Joe C. is an ATG.

BTW let's not forget he is also nearly 37 (not prime) and also tried to fight Hopkins and RJJ-both refused many times years earlier.

I'm Australian. The Lacy fight spawned a lot of idiotic pundirty the sees no sign of abating.
Americans were so keen to run down the latest Euro bum (or 'Brit bum' or whatever) that they invested all their hopes and prediction in an unproven fighter like Lacy to put him in his place. When Joe beat him up fans from the British Isles unleashed all their pent up, repressed desperation for Joe to be taken seriously. By not getting what they wanted, so began a complex about Joe never being given any credid for his wins and an inability to see any of his wins as anything less than final vindication of Joe's ten ATG status. American's react by not rating him at all....

Im American and I have to say no. IMO, Joe still doesnt have that marquee win that puts him into atg status. I know people will say "what about Lacy and Kessler?" Both Lacy and Kessler have accomplished nothing. Then they will say "what about Hopkins and RJJ?" I know its been said many times, but the fact is, they are just too damn old.

Think of it like this, Hopkins lost twice to JT, do you consider JT an all time great? because I consider Bhop calzaghe's best win, but JT not only beat him once, but twice.

Calzaghe beat a version of Jones that had lost three of his last 6. Not only that, but a blown up Tito gave him all he could handle in the fight before. Face it, calzaghe beat a well past it old rjj. Put it like this, just based off of the Tito fight alone, I would pick Pavlik, JT, Dawson, Tarver, and maybe even Kessler to beat this version of Roy.

Yep, agreed, and alot of people in the press, fans, commentators, ect, don't even think Calzaghe beat Hopkins. That's to go along with what you're saying.. Calzaghe can become an ATG, but he has to do so proving it.
