We all know the great 46-0 record. He beat some good fighters like Eubank,Woodhall,Kessler and Lacy. He then stepped up and beat Hopkins which was a great win historically because Hopkins has shown several years later that he is still a great fighter. We know he then savaged an aged Roy Jones. When all is said and done and we look at the body of his 46-0 record, is Joe an ATG?

He's certainly an ATG at super middleweight. I guess Jonny Nelson might be considered an ATG in the Cruiserweight division though. So does that really make him an ATG?

Looking beyond his 46-0 record you could still make a case. 21 title defences at super middleweight, against limited opposition, but still boasts a claim to the the lineal title and has a certain dominance over the era, not unquestionable though. Although he acquired this title from dominating an overmatched and overly hyped Jeff Lacy, he went on to unify against Kessler to assert himself as number one in the division. He boasts a razor thin decision over a top 30 ATG in Hopkins and a second lineal title in a second weight division. Hopkins was obviously past his best, but in retrospect, the victory has become greater due to Hopkins success at world level nearly 7 years later. Add that to dominant victories over faded Hall of Famers Roy Jones Jr and Chris Eubank, as well as boasting an undefeated record and being a champion for over 10 years, then you you have a pretty strong case to consider him an ATG.

Good enough to give a hard, close fight to anyone, I would put it this way.

I would have to say yes! he fought a long time, and beat very creditable opposition, and never lost a professional match, a better question could be how could he NOT be an atg??

And he knew he was slipping and got out at the right time smart dude, props to him, to many guys are dumb AND hang on too long because they need the money, or their ego won't let them quit, so they end up on their backs, drooling all over themselves, because of their own stupidity...

His refusal to shave his chest has to be counted against him.

joe beat the breaks off jeff lacy. i should all the brotha's that fight. they all had the big black jeff wining by ko. i cant lie i did to but not because of color, just thought lacy was the better fighter. i think joe could have out pointed glen and tarver(maybe). chad would have been a 50/50 fight i think, all in all i think joe is atg.

I don't think so. Superbly conditioned and gutsy as hell, but I don't see anything remarkable in him, record aside.

I think you are right. All time great means something more to me. I thought Joe was very sloppy at times. He obviously wasn't a bum, but I don't see greatness, either.

Calzaghe never lost a professional fight, and went into the ring to actually fight, not GRAB, HOLD, PULL ON SOMEONES NECK, LEAN ON THE BACK, that bull**** isn't fighting..

Did you see the Povetkin fight?? that was a disgrace...

I wish he would come to the states to fight Stiverne so he would get his ass kicked, they won't let all of that sissy **** fly here , **** no...

you need to look at his record again. joe is not an atg. i saw his whole career. it's disgraceful to compare his record against the true greats of the sport.
