You're not clever enough to even begin to annoy me. Crawl back under your rock.

Joe is top 5 in the modern era.

Was a big fan of Calzaghe, enjoyed watching him fight and he was a top fighter. Met him as well and he was a top guy.

Difficult to put him number 1 post-war with Lennox and Buchanen in the mix.

That was what i meant before rossco. Joe was the greatest post war fighter IMO. I don't consider Lewis British he fought for Canada and was more Jamaican than British IMO.
It's between Calzaghe and Buchanan and i'll give Joe the nod. Buchanan fought better opponents than Joe, but Joe beat everybody who was put in front of him including Hopkins. B-Hop's a legend and you just have to look what he has achieved after that fight which make's Calzaghe's win look better all the time.

See this is what makes it difficult, I know what your getting at but it's very contradicting.

Both were massively talented, but "Buchanan fought the better fighters than Joe did whilst Joe beat everyone put in front of him".

So the immediate argument there is, if Buchanan decided to fight lesser fighters he also would have beaten everyone put in front of him. But shouldn't he be credited for taking these fights and not doing that?

Now Buchanan was put in with Roberto Duran and was winning that fight until we all know what happened in the 13th - Joe was never in with anyone like him.

Robin Reid beat Calzaghe quite clearly.

Ted Kid Lewis, Owen Moran, Jack Kid Berg, Bob Fitzsimmons, Jimmy Wilde, Kenneth Buchanan, Jonathan Conteh, Christopher Eubank Senior, Naseem Hamed, Lennox Lewis.

Sugar Ray Robinson (Randy Turpin) and Don Curry (Lloyd Honeyghan) were far, far better wins than Calzaghe's only career achievement - a struggle victory against a very average, mediocre Danish fighter Kessler. Pedroza was a far better win too.

He lost to Reid and Hopkins.

Pudwill's no worse than Mauricio Amaral and Dan Schommer.

We're talking Calzaghe not Christopher. Eubank defended every six weeks in front of 10-20,000, not once a year in front of 900.

Amaral gave Liles a hard fight and Schommer did better against Eubank than Calzaghe himself did!

Calzaghe may not be the greatest of all time but he was sure as hell better than Hamed, and Cal turned Kessler over after around 5 rounds and never looked back-a Kessler who certainly wasnt average.

And he didnt lose to Hopkins, many see it the other way.
Reid he got lucky but still won

And Calzaghe wouldn't go anywhere near Liles! A tall southpaw with a dangerous right hook....

Kessler was very basic and had never fought anyone, and nobody near their best. Froch was better at the time.

Hamed looked better against Robinson than Calzaghe did against Lacy. And Robinson was a far better fighter than Jeff Lacy.

    Fair point with Lewis

If you knew more about Buchanan you would change your mind. Buchanan dethroning the great Ismael Laguna tops Joe's win over Bhop. Hopkins might be a legend of this era but there was legends of past era's held to as high esteem as Hopkins. Joe beat an older Hopkins, he wasn't shot but it wasn't Hopkins at his best. Hopkins has went on to make Joe's win look better I agree but against who of real note? The garbage era Hopkins is competing in has helped with his longevity at the top as much as his skills and dedication.
Ken on the other hand competed in one of the greatest lightweight era's in history and was n1 until he faced the phenomenal Roberto Duran who had to put one on his nuts to stop him. People forget or don't know Ken won the title off Laguna in Puerto Rico, outdoors, in extreme heat and high altitude. Laguna was an outstanding boxer but so was Ken, his extra toughness and stamina won him that fight. It's considered the Greatest win in British boxing history by many. Ken beat Laguna again in New York in a rematch.

Ken would cake walk the level of comp Joe faced most his career. If Ken fought that standard of competition in his era he would be undefeated as well.

Ken was just better anyway. It's as clear as day on film.
