Yes he fought more times than Joe, but all boxers did back in those days it was the norm. I said before Buchanan fought tougher opponents than Joe (Laguna, Duran), but you can't choose what era you fought in either. The thing is Joe never lost to lesser fighters like Buchanan did while that takes nothing away from Buchanans achievements it does affect his legacy.
Calzhage's opponents had 46 times to challenge that O, so Joe never had to fight past his best and it doesn't make him a lesser fighter because he got out at the right time.

You cant argue with what he achieved. But the fights between Eubank and Lacy were suspect at best.

I guess would we be even arguing if Joe had fought RJJ and Bhop in their primes and maybe fought Froch, now knowing what Froch went on to do.

Calzaghe's WBO title run doesn't mean anything either, typical of ignorant "fans" to put so much stock into it. If making multiple defences of the (then) lowly regarded WBO belt, against a string of nobodies, makes Calzaghe an ATG, then so is Artur Grigorian.

No but he is in my top 5 only Wilde, and Lewis rank above him IMO.

I'm definitely of the opinion that there have been superior British fighters to Calzaghe. Not sure he's in top ten really.
Post-War he's in with a shout, I consider his success and glory well deserved and enjoyed his stylistic boxing, I just can't put his achievements and talent alongside others that have been mentioned in this thread already: Fitzsimmons, Ted Lewis, Jim Wilde, Ken Buchannan, Lennox Lewis etc etc

Very good yes, the best British fighter of all time? no. Neither in a p4p sense or a achievement sense.

Love reading some of the posts, it seems you have to be in love with the guy or hate him and try to demean his achievements.

Duran lost to lesser fighters, so did Ali and Robinson, etc. Did it effect their legacy? Did loses to lesser men effect the legacy of the Brits rated greater than Calzaghe? No it didn't.
You overrate the 0 mate. Look at the **** Calzaghe fought to keep that 0. Sure Buchanan lost to fighters that couldn't lace his gloves in his prime but he also beat fighters past his prime better than what Joe fought in world title defences. Kens record is so much tougher than Joe's if you know what your looking at.

his wins against 1 Kessler 2 Hopkins 3 Eubank 4 Lacy .. were 4 very good wins, especially the Kessler win .. what a fight that was, 2 world class fighters undefeated at the top of their game- the top 2 in their division going at it in front of 50,000 people, I wish fights like that would happen more often. He has loads of good wins against the likes of Robin Reid, Sakio Bika, etc. Couldn't care less what any troll with an agenda thinks, |I don't know why you haters waste your time on a guy that got in the hall of fame at the first time of asking without no problems unlike most of the guys you think were greater than him who couldn't get in the hall of fame, and is massively respected by all knowledgeable boxing writers/ experts.

I said I wasn't...... neither are you though. I watched all the so called greats from the last 30 years from the UK and Calzaghe is better than all of them. It's hard to know about guys like Ted Kid Lewis and Jimmy Wilde without seeing proper footage of them. Calzaghe on paper is certainly better than them. Calzaghe is definiately the best UK boxer of this generation.
Calzaghe has plenty of good wins, Kessler and Hopkins being the best two, and beating Eubank when he was still very green in the manner he did it was a great achievement.
How was Hopkins past his best when hes still world champion 6 years later and has had good wins since, if anyone was past it it was clearly Calzaghe as his hands were done , and he had to retire soon after cause his body was giving up on him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blah blah you just make yourself look like a negative hating jealous person, you know Calzaghe was a great fighter with A level abilty so why troll

What Brit boxers mentioned in this thread didn't get in the hall of fame? Calzaghe isn't the only British boxer in the HOF. All of the fighters mentioned in this thread as greater than Calzaghe are in the HOF

The Hall is considered a joke nowaday's anyway.

Resume is not that of an ATG, he's a HOF fighter which is a brilliant achievement.
