If he isnt the greatest he's one of them, you can talk down his achievements all you want but remained undefeated throughout his career an achievement that many try to follow, he may have got a few decisions that went his way..they were never robberies and that's part of boxing.

Hang on a minute Hamed went away from home and fought the best in his weight class who was in his prime. That wasn`t the first time Hamed travelled to America and fought world champions.

Calzaghe stayed at home and struggled against guys like David Starrie,he had no intention of taking on the best in his weight class at home and he sure as hell wasn`t going to go to America to take on their best as he developed a Denis Bergkamp fear of flying that he miraculously recovered from when BHOP/ Jones got old and the others had retired.

perhaps best British SMW so far, that's what you can argue for, though a good argument for Eubank, Benn and Froch are equally apparent.

definitely best welsh smw of al time and future.

None of the that changes the fact Cal was better nor that when Hamed came across his nearest rival Barrera,he got soundly beaten. Joe was well past prime when he fought Hopkins and Jones, his resistance had gone and still won. Yet you pick on an off night in a 46 fight career-they happen and do to Hamed against weak opposition

IMO Hamed fought at a higher level and he was absolutely destroying guys who had never been destroyed before in their careers.

I am not making a case for Hamed being the best Brit ever but he did more for British boxing than Joe did and was a far better p4p fighter despite the loss to Barerra when Hamed was unmotivated and didn`t train properly for the fight. You only have to watch the Film "Little Prince Big Fight" to know where Hamed was.

I see how he could have done more for boxing over here than Joe,Naz had a ****iness (and punch!) that drew people in,love or hate people wanted to watch him. I just think Joe had a better skilset and fought better opp than Hamed did-though Hameds 'average' opponent might have been better than Cal,Cals best opp is better than Hameds

Hamed and Barrera wer pretty close to if not prime opps, the way fights are supposed to be.

not sure why you are excusing only just post prime Calzaghe (having just beaten his peak opponent Kessler, that has to be his best form) for facing 40somethings as 'best ever fights'. Do you think Hamed would stoop so low?

What makes you blind to these differences?

    Hamed was ahead of Joe.

Your a notorious troll but when did I say jones was his best ever fight? Not excusing him of anything. Hopkins and jones didnt want Joe when they were younger and Joe didn't want them at that point either-first time all 3 wanted it,it happened and Joe won both. Hopkins is ageless so you could argue he wasn't much past Prime in some ways

Not blind of anything,Eubank at the stage of Joes career was relatively speaking as good as Hameds of opposition at the same point.

Hamed was great no doubt but I think Joe was better skill wise-hence a better fighter

Good points mate and well made, don`t get me wrong I am not one of those who hates on Joe I was at the MEN when he schooled Lacy and for me it was one of the finest performances on these shores by a British fighter.

It still wasn`t as good as Benns against McClellan nor as good as Watsons against Benn.I still think Honeyghans performance against Curry is the best British performance in my lifetime.

Joe gave us all some memorable nights but sadly they were too few,I thought he got a gift against Hopkins and the RJJ performance is remembered more for him being knocked down and the disgraceful dry humping of a once great fighter left a bitter taste in my mouth and showed a complete lack of respect.

After all said and done Joe was a superb British fighter but when you break it all down he is easily in the top 10 but a long way off best British fighter ever.

Its only my opinion and I don`t claim to be correct.
