You have given three conditions above, which I have listed below.

    1. Stood straight on
    2. Only a few inches away.
    3. throwing the same two shots over and over.

For some strange reason you didn't accept the Manfredo KO, which I had presented earlier, as sufficient proof despite it having capitalised all three of the above criteria you desired.

So I present to you the following Joe Calzaghe video while he is in action:-

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__TGm5D1R4k

and as you can see, this time there is no room left for you to dispute as Joe Calzaghe was clearly "stood straight on, only a few inches away, throwing the same two shots over and over" which was the conditions you set earlier.

Hear hear... Calzaghe was dreadfully mismanaged by Frank ******, and he just let it happen, seriously compromising his legacy in the process.

    Ha...

Funny, everything about this thread and all the posts.

I will say that George Foreman was pretty devastating... I think he counts as a volume puncher if some people are saying Hopkins and Sweet Pea, who were the opposite of a volume puncher.

    It's all bull**** mate.

In the original video, his head is nearly touching the bag, and his hands are about half an inch away from it.

In the Manfredo video, he misses with six shots.

In the second video, he's got his legs wide apart, and he throws 10 cuffs from out wide. In the training video, he punches with his fists in a straight line. Completely different. Not that it matters.

You can't fight against anyone, in the same way he was hitting the bag in training.

That exercise shows his stamina and his hand speed. But it's not in anyway practical.

He did have a great shot output, but he was very scrappy and untidy at times.

    1. And in the second video Joe Calzaghe is not "nearly touching" his opponent, he is touching his opponent.

    2. And his hands are a few inches away from his opponent. You now changed your statement to "half an inch" to make it more difficult to bring evidence. Stop flip flopping and punching yourself in the face like Tyson Fury here is you first saying "a few inches away"

    http://www.boxingforum24.com/showpost.php?p=15690353&postcount=17

That is obvious because Manfredo is a moving target while a punch bag is stationary. It does not matter how much of an accurate puncher you are, you would miss punches in your career.

There is not a single boxer in history that has had 100% accuracy rate. Besides this thread is discussing "volume" punching, and accuracy is not a factor in this case.

The position of the legs is irrelevant when it comes to throwing punches. Joe Calzaghe could have his legs crossed, be on one foot or be doing the splits we are discussing his punch output. And Joe Calzaghe proved in the second video his volume punching in 240p/360p definition.

Exactly, "not that it matters", it don't matter how he is punching it is his volume punching that is in discussion.

Manfredo KO is the first example, and the 2nd video I dont know which bum that was because Calzaghe fought his fair share of bums, but it is concrete proof of Joe Calzaghe implementing his volume punching.

Calzaghe's volume punching was improved by that training exercise, watch the video he says "thats my secret".

This is true, that is why he is called Joe Calslappy.

    realsoulja,

    1. I never said he wasn't touching his opponent. I said that in the training video, his head was nearly touching the bag.

    2. I haven't changed anything mate.

Look, I appreciate why Joe did what he did in training. It was great for stamina, and for his hand speed.

But to replicate that in a real fight, he'd had to have have done the following things:

(If his opponent was in the same place as the bag)

    1. He'd had to have been stood directly in front of his opponent.

    2. His head would had to have been half an inch from his opponents face.

    3. He would had to have been throwing straight punches into his opponents chest repeatedly, from about half an inch out.

    4. His opponent would had to have been stood there straight and been completely motionless.

There you go there then. His opponent tried to move out of the way, where as the bag obviously didn't.

It was obviously done mainly for fitness.

Of course. But he had a 100% accuracy rate in training, because he couldn't miss could he?

He was stood firing shots at a stationary target from half an inch away.

His stamina in the video is very impressive. But apart from that, it wasn't practical, and it couldn't have been replicated in a real fight.

That's fair enough, but again, my point was that he couldn't replicate what he'd done in training, and applied it in a fight.

    Again fair enough.

It's funny because we've somehow found ourselves in a completely pointless debate.

We must be getting laughed at by other members that are reading this.

Joe OBVIOUSLY didn't train like that, to try and replicate those exact punches, from that distance to try and incorporate them into a real fight.

It's my own fault for originally saying that I wasn't impressed. But I just meant from a practical point of view.

But again, it was clearly never Joe's intentions to incorporate those exact things into a fight.

I agree, and if his training that we saw helped him achieve it, then fair enough.

As above, that's fair enough. Again, my original point was, that it didn't impress me because it wasn't practical. But if it helped Joe become the great volume puncher that he was, then it was obviously a very important part of his training, and I respect that.

    Loudon,

Joe Calzaghe applied those mini punches in the fight when I presented the 2nd video:-

If you cannot see it then you may need to upgrade you Adobe flash player or get yourself a new computer because it seems pretty clear to me.

I'd like to retract my original statement, where I said "That's bollocks! What was the purpose of doing that?"

I'd had a few last night, and now it's clear that he obviously just did it to help his fitness, hand speed and shot output.

He clearly never intended to do exactly what he'd done in training, in a real life fight.

In other words mate, just ignore me, it's been a long week.

Of course Joe applied those mini punches, and his training obviously helped him do that.

I wasn't trying to be argumentative, I was just stating that the punches from your videos, weren't the same as what he'd done in training.

But it's obvious why that was the case.

Here is Joe Calzaghe KO'ing his opponent using "half inch" "punches".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HE7WAWp-vFA

I am not saying all of Calzaghe's punches were "half inch" shots, because this video would prove otherwise:-
