Probably this thread was created under the influence of this article? http:// www . b o x i n g s c e n e . com /?m=show&opt=printable&id=44795 Frazier is much overated, indeed, if you consider his resume and compare it to truly great fighters, but then pretty much every heavyweight is like that, including Ali; resume-wise they are nowhere close to Robinson, B. Leonard, Greb, etc.
I have knocked Frazier from time to time ,but anyone placing any credence in the suggestion that he was a fraud should beg, borrow, or steal a copy of his fight with Muhammad Ali that March evening in MSG 1971. The ,courage , determination, and sheer will to win of Frazier over those epic 15rds , validates completely what the sport of boxing is supposed to be about. That night he was a great fighter, and he belongs with the other greats.
You mean that these claims were made after Frazier got slapped around like a red-headed stepchild? Who would have thought,a fighter and the team around him making excuses after suffering such an embarrassing defeat - what a rarity that is! Futch certainly had no issue in claiming his man to be ready for Foreman in the days leading up to their fight.
Nice try, mcvey. :nono Everybody knows that Frazier fabricated the FOTC footage. Frazier's fake "victory" over Muhammad Ali was just a smokescreen for his fraudulent seizure of the heavyweight title. Indeed, most reputable historians doubt that Ali existed at all.
No,this thread was created as a response to me criticizing Joe Frazier. Here's a similar thread Round15 created a couple of months back in response to some criticism that I threw in Frazier's direction: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=336078&highlight=goyourownway Round15 is quite clearly emotionally attatched to Mr Frazier, and he's the only poster that I know who creates these type of threads. He needs to create these type of threads to gain support and to convince himself that I,Goyourownway,am merely a troll and a hater.
Take away the wins over Muhammad Ali, Jimmy Ellis, Jerry Quarry, Oscar Bonavena, Joe Bugner, George Chuvalo, Eddie Machen, Buster Mathis, and he's a nobody. What a fraud he was.
Absolutely...a true fighting man down to his bones. Truly as brave as they come. An absolute warrior. I can't believe anybody would even ask "Is Joe Frazier a fraud". If all in boxing were as brave and as pure a fighting man as Joe, the sport would be greater more consistently.
To put the word "fraud" and Joe Frazier in the same sentence is simply disgraceful. The last fighter who should ever be called a fraud is Joe Frazier.
Can anyone name a deserving challenger between the years of 68 and 73 who joe failed to face? With hindsight, victories over shavers, norton and patterson would have done him a world of good - where they ever in the reckoning though?
