I looked up the word "fraud" in the dictionary and it said "the opposite of Joe Frazier"

but there was a picture of Lebron James there.:tong

Foremanwas known to have been underestimated by Frazier right away, not as years passed. You are right about styles, Foreman probably beats him anyway.
If ref stops it after second knock down, win would not be so impressive. Mercante let Frazier keep going while out on his feet, a mistake, and something leading to Foreman looking even more impressive.

Fraizer was at peak fro 1968-1971, so his best years were short. After first Ali fight, he stopped training anywhere near as hard as he had, and developed heavy drinking habit, by his own admission. What Frazier did in years of 68-71 was great, nothing to be diminished about it. Quarry, Ellis, Bonavena twice, Mathis, Chuvalo---he did a lot. Plus Ali win.

  5. My God no. Even growing up as a little white boy I worshiped Frazier as a very God among insects. Guys like Frazier,Ali,Foreman and Norton are practically religious figures to me.
Joe Frazier won the biggest fight of all time against Ali. He destroyed the slick Jimmy Ellis and won Olympic gold. No he was not a fraud. He was a great champion with a sick left hook, great stamina and tons of heart.

Joe having a short prime isnt uncommon. The pitbull pressure fighters dont usually have a long prime. It takes so much for them to do what they do. If they slip 10% it shows because they are going into bigger men who have natural built in advantages.

    Joe Frazier,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Great for Boxing too.

    July 1972

There was talk of putting together a July 1972 bout, between Joe Frazier and
Floyd Patterson for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Joe Frazier said yes,,,,,,,,,,providing that Floyd passed all medical examinations
and was given a 100% approval by a certified boxing physician.

'Smokin Joe' could have picked up an easy $750,000 for that bout,,,,,,and one where he
    could have hurt Floyd Pattersson.

When the NYSAC boxing commission said, Floyd Patterson was OK to fight 'mediocre
opponents', but in no way Joe Frazier,,,,,,,,a Scandanavian Promoter said he could
get Floyd Patterson approved for a bout in Helsinki, Finalnd.

'Smokin Joe' said no way,,,,,,,,and would not do it, despite an 'easy pay-day'.

4-Months later, Floyd Patterson was fighting Muhammad Ali in Las Vegas.

I was asking this question in defense of Frazier and wanted to know what others thought. If you think I'm being ridiculous, that's fine by you. Just a question because there are some here who believe he was a protected fraud that never would have been champion had Ali not been exiled.

I strongly believe Frazier is one of the greatest fighters EVER. He would have given Ali problems everytime they fought. I do believe that the 60s Ali might have been a little bit fast for Frazier, but I wouldn't bet against Joe tagging Ali and perhaps sending him to floor like Cooper did. This wasn't a Cleveland Williams who took a bullet to the gut.

This is true, not trolling, my friend loves Morales, and so do I in his win over Pac, but the last fight just taking the count without getting up for one last desperado kind of pisses Me off.

Possibly the only 'bonehead move' by Joe Frazier,,,,,,,

Trying to make that Musical Revue 'Joe Frazier and the Knockouts' a legitimate act.

'Smokin Joe' tried to imitate James Brown, and that was a 'fraudulent act'.

On Sunday - May 2, 1971- only 8-weeks after defeating Muhammad Ali in the FOTC on March 8, 1971 -

'Joe Frazier and the Knockouts' were to play the Winterland Auditorium in San Francisco.

Paid a booking fee of $5000, plus $5000 in expenses, the Musical Revue played to an
audience of less than 100 people in the 5400 seat Auditorium.

The management of the Winterland begged Joe Frazier to cancel the show, but
Joe was stubborn and went on anyway. Those 100 people in attendance got to see
    the undisputed World Champion sing.

The Oakland Tribune reported, 'the only thing that hurts worse than a Joe Frazier left hook, is his voice.'

    OUCH....!!!!!

Muhammad Ali 3x, George Foreman 2x, Jerry Quarry, Bob Foster, Buster Mathis, Eddie Machen, George Chuvalo, and Jimmy Ellis don't sound like names you'd see on the record of a protected fighter to me.

    Exactly!

There are still those here who use Frazier's non-fights against the bigger punchers in the division at the time, Mac Foster, Lyle, Liston, Shavers. It's used a source for him avoiding big punchers despite beating the main contenders who beat these same guys.
