Besides Goyourownway, who else thinks Frazier is overated and why?

Sorry if this one's been done before, just elaborating on the overated fighters thread.

On this particular site he is somewhat under rated IMHO.

Well we all know how much his house-of-cards record relies on a win over a grossly pre-prime Ali, who was never to reach his peak until late 1975.

Judging by your name ,not by you.
I have him around no 10 alltime at heavy.
It's just personal opinion isn't it?

Overrated in a sense that he is often brought up as the blue print of a 70s fighter that would simply "walk through" all of today's heavyweights. He would not.

Exactly right McVey, personal opinion. Trying to find logic is a different story altogether.

He's probably rated where he should be for the most part. There's no one here who have him in the top 3 for instance, where some have Foreman and Dempsey.

    Head to head? Sometimes.

In every other respect he's right where he needs to be generally, i'd say.

fraziers only punch was the left hook he had nothin else plus dempseys left hook was waay better faster more skilled and tons more power

ali was shot in the 70s thats why frazier managed to beat him but prime ali would knock out that bum frazier in one round so would dempsey mate ffs

Just like every other fighter, it depends on who you talk to. Some have him rated in the top 6-7, which frankly I have too high, while others barely rank him in the top 10. I have him at around 8-9, which I think is fair. He did after all fight in a great era and defeated a decent string of fighters, including an inactive, but still servicable Ali, and won the olympic gold medal. He was only beaten by two men who were all time greats, and began fighting rated opposition at a very early stage in his career. That's enough to make the upper tier IMO. His low number of fights, devastating loss to Foreman, and short reign at the top keep him from being ranked among the top 5..
