Body punching has become a lost forgotten art in the sport of boxing. It's such an effective method, but it rarely used because it takes time (for the most part to pay off). In my opinion nobody did it better than Joe Frazier. I've never seen anyone who can consistently throughout the entire fight deliver suck damaging body punching.

But just about every one he fought he hurt using these body punches. And when his opponents were unable to be mobile as they were in previous rounds and had trouble breathing is when Joe went in for the kill.

Does anyone else think Joe is the best body puncher, or can you think of some one better?

quiet possilbly, in my opinion "Smokin" Joe Frazier along with Roberto Duran is the greatest infighter of all time any young boxers who want study infighting should watch the he does it, very hard to think of any one better at fighting on the inside than "Smokin" Joe.

Nobody that's what I said in the post. Body punching usually doesn't start taking effect until the mid late rounds. Face punches have an immediate reaction. Joe didn't consistently get to the face like he got to the body. When he cut off the ring on his opponents many times when they backed up they covered their face to keep Joe from hitting them there, but they left there body open for Joe to exploit.

The question was do you think Joe Frazier is the best body puncher of all time? Do you think another boxer is better?

I would say heavyweights, very possibly along with Marciano. Pound for pound its difficult to say but let me be the first to mention Mike McCallum before everyone else gets in.

I'd say that he was the best body puncher at heavyweight. There are too many to choose from in all weight divisions.

Great Heavyweight makes it a little easier to judge. Along with this. Why do you all think that body punching is a lost art in boxing? I could be wrong but it seems like not many fighters use this technique anymore.

I'd have to go with Dempsey...followed by Marciano...and then maybe Frazier...and yeah I'm biased towards heavyweights

    12 rounds, amateur boxing.

It's not completely a lost art but I guess it's not as big a part of the sport as it used to be. You don't get awarded for body punches in today's amateur boxing and great body punching is not something you just suddenly learn when you turn pro. I'd say it's usually too late to turn a boxer into a great body puncher at that point.

The 3 extra rounds also made body punching more relevant. Fighters can get away with being tired and beaten by hanging onto a 12 round decision but 15 rounds made it more difficult.

As a heavyweight perhaps, but overall my answer would be no. I`d give the nod to Luis Rodriguez as a matter of fact, few men were as dedicated to going to the body as he was and he would rattle off at times comvinations of over a dozen punches to the midsection with most of them landing clearly. Jake LaMotta is another one, among far too many others to name but for my money LMR gets my vote by far.
