Yeah you're right as you could tell Goosen was in a drought for some time now as a trainer where he would come off the commentary table go train & jump back on tv doing double duty, Your very aware of how he speaks of Ryan with the feeling that he finally hit the lottery with a top player with added mainstream appeal, It's a complete game changer even if it's just on paper alone kind of like a team drafting a number one pick in sports opposed to training the unknown/unappealing raw fighter from the ground up.
That's a great point about Goossen going back and forth, from the commentating booth to the corner. As for everyone abandoning Ryan after the fight, Goossen is the only person who surprised me. I've always thought he cared for his fighters. That said, I fully expect Golden Boy's (Oscar and BHop) no-show at the post-fight press conference will hurt their ability to sign and/or keep fighters.
Yeah i wonder what happened to Goosen, no post fight interview? though i never searched for it either, perhaps some dissension among Ryan's team? As for Oscar at this point he has done & said so many embarrassing things as a promoter & person, not sure if even his stable of fighters truly take him serious while Eric Gomez does all the hard work in the background.
hes got the knowledge, but i dont think he knows how to fit the approach to the fighter. some fighters need encouragement to thrive, others discipline and a fire under their ass. some need nothing but the knowledge. a great coach knows who he needs to be and when.
From what I can tell he is a good coach, but just not an authoritative one. Ryan basically ignore Goosen as his coach. Goosen admitted "you don't train Ryan, you collaberate with him". Exactly the words of Canelo and Eddy Reynoso, Ryan is simply an undisciplined fighter and does what he wants. Goosen appeared to be okay with this in so far that as long as he was getting payed, he didn't care if that's what Ryan wants. Goosen appears to have been giving the right instructions, but Ryan didn't listen.
