Joyce's biggest asset was his chin, together with his workrate. But his chin may be gone now given all the damage sustained in the Zhang fights.
He's top 10 still. He just showed his ceiling. Someone his size with similar durability that's faster will end up pushing his wig back because he's probably one of the 5 slowest HW's I've ever seen. I don't personally like him but there's only like 4 or so guys I think would beat him.
38, has absorbed tons of punishment in his career, riding two back to back stoppage losses which occurred in the span of 5 months. Yeah.... about that.... wishful thinking here. It's likely all downhill for Joyce from here on out. Durability probably won't be the same, coincidence will likely be hurt and he's only getting older.
Bro Joyce gets absolutely taken apart by Hrgovic now. Hrgovic was about 10 when they fought. Hrgovic may still be the king in a few years, if The current crop decide to retire or passing the guard fight. Ive said that the next crop will be aload of massive SHWs destroying each other, and the belts will change hands very quickly until a dominant shw boxer/puncher turns up. Joyce is probably h2h in top 10 still. But with his style, any competent boxer with size and power, and chin can beat him. Remember this Hrgovic is better than Parker, as a fight winner. Hrgovic has pure confidence in his abilities, Parker is mentally soft.
Hrgovic unlike Dubois and Parker, Has mental resolve and adaptability. Especially in the pro ranks, the men seperate the boys. But still Joyce is h2h top 8 on his night.
Joyce was overated big time before Zhang and after Parker. Remember Parker struggled with Delboy 1 and Whyte. Two fighters who if it wasnt for the recent british hype market would be chucked into the rubbish long ago. Joyce was rated top 5, or even top 3 after that Parker win. The tides change so quick in the boxing fans eye. Joyce didnt mind taking big hits from smaller men or old fighters, but he met a fresh well prepared fighter in Zhang. Joyces ring IQ is clearly not elite.
He does but he showed against Zhang his weaknesses, namely him switching off at several points in the fight. I’ve never been completely sold on him, but he is one tough guy and I would give him the edge against Joyce.
His dad died and he wasnt in the right head space months before. That is a valid excuse, to not be fully motivated, not like having like the **** ive heard before.. He worked Zhang in the later rounds, and took his best. I had Hrgovic by 2 or 3. And after that Zhang destroyed Joyce.
It's impossible to rate him right now. If he looks like crap in his next fight then he could very well still be overrated. If he steamrolls a respectable opponent then we can start to maybe consider him a dangerous contender again. But Zhang showed that Joyce wasn't unbeatable or unstoppable and that's a huge blow to his whole brand image and self-belief as a fighter. I still think he's a solid top ten opponent right now, but there are a number of fighters out there who beat him that I wouldn't have given such a good chance to prior to his back to back losses.
I think that like AJ, Joyce is underrated at the moment. They simply came up against their respective kryptonite. Both fighters steamroll Hrgovic as well IMO. He was dead on his feet against Zhang, and I wanted Hrgovic to win but he was gifted that fight (in fact I'm surprised it wasn't waved off at two points).
I think the Zhang fight has took a lot from him. I can tell in interviews it's slowed him down a bit.
Can’t agree with the last part - Zhang won for me by 2 rounds although I could have scored it level. That is also fair but Hrgovic has a tendency to get sloppy in general, as well as throwing wild rabbit punches like he did against Molina. I’m simply not sold on him being a threat to the top guys, I think they handle him without too much difficulty.
