Is Joe Louis technically unevolved, or is he up to modern standards?

He was an excellent boxer with as perfect a punch technique as I have seen. You already know this ,so I'm a bit bemused by your thread R.

He looks modern to me. He fights like he has a plan and from behind a jab.

As long as he ate enough blueberries, goji berries, Mary Berry's and quinoa (rice for c**ts) he might even bulk up to middleweight. You know, take one in a trilogy with Golovkinevachenko as long as the latter didn't have feet.

Compared to his opponents, Louis looked very modern. That said, the offensive skills he had can´t rly be trained, you ether have it or you won´t.

He might improve his movement and footspeed a little bit, thats about it.

I think he would be a rocksolid CW today.

Probably good enough to give Bruno a stern test.

Actually I would. Vitali beat nobody close to Louis in class, you gotta go with the proven entity over the guy who didn't fight the best HW of his era(not wanting to fight your brother is a valid reason but the fact remains)

Then you are undoubtably lost in the uncomparable resume-to-resume logic, instead of analysing the much much more relevant style-details on film.

    I'm considering that as well.
What about Vitalis jab and Louis lack of headmovement? Well Louis will be jabbing with Vitali.

What about the size advantage? In order for that to Matter Vitali has to being Louis punching range at which time Louis power advantage, Handspeed advantage and Vitalis Bad skin will also be a factor.

Then consider the way Louis leans to the side when he fights, vitali will have to lean forward and commit to the front foot to hit him, making him a big Target to get lit up by Louis combinations

The size advantage means Vitali WON’T need to be in Louis’ punching range. He was a big dude, shifty and had an excellent jab. Louis isn’t going to just be able to tee off on him, although I’m sure he’d get his licks in.

By size I meant his weight and physical strength.

Ok so let's talk about Vitalis rangyness

Louis had an equal or superior jab. When the shorter guy jabs WITH you, your reach advantage is temporarily. negated

Louis also had the type of stance and posture that wouldn't allow a huge guy like viatali to stay at a distance. He would have to lean in somewhat(and as a big guy who will inevitably gas out easier than a smaller guy) he will be using his weight to lean on Louis anyway or atleast clinch to get a rest. At this point Louis advantage on how quickly he pulled the trigger on his combinations comes into play.

    Seriously though.
Is the Heavyweight division now better than in the 90's? I'm going to say it's not.
Was Joe Louis the same size as Evander Holyfeild? Yeah roughly, bit shortly, bit naturally heavier.
Was Joe Louis better than Evander Holfyfeild? I'm going to say yes.

So for me it's hard to see him not atleast becoming a Champion at heavyweight, let alone at Cruiserweight.

Louis didn't have the legs of Holyfield, Evander wouldn't have been nowhere near as successful had he had Louis' movement.

The problem is both Louis and Vitali are far far away from the most comparable opponents both of them fought.

Thats why this would take some time finding most comparable fights. For example looking at how Vitali reacts to Sanders quick hands when he lands. I think Louis would land something, he was just that quick. The problem is Vitali was durable as hell, and wouldn´t most likely go anywhere: Louis needs a decision.

Vitali on the other hand can both, rock Louis or fight 12 to 15.

At least I would say Vitali is a horrible matchup for every much smaller fighter relying on power, sharpness and speed. Like Tyson, Louis, Hide, Haye, Povetkin. I think a Foreman or Ibeabuchi type of power will find it easier in winning rounds.

With at least some categories of saying: No!
