http://www.iboboxing.com/rankings/147.html I was looking at the IBO's rankings and I noticed that they have Casamayor ranked 9th in the Welterweight division, did he jump up to 147 or did they mess up?
They ranked him because his last fight he was 146. During the telecast for his last one they mentioned that he said he would fight at 140 from now on.
I bet Casa was a "pionero", and he also militated in "la juventud". Cubans are familiar with those terms.
Those are Government sponsored Communist youth groups. Translanting into "Pioneer" and "The Youth". [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_movement[/ame] http://www.juventudrebelde.cu/ (This ones in Spanish, sorry coulden't find one in English).
Exactly, the League/Union of Young Communists (a.k.a. the Youth), you are not obliged to enter its ranks, I never did, but as successful as Casa was in Cuba, I bet they "asked" him to join their ranks... Turning down that offer would spell an uncountable amount of trouble. The Organization of Pioneers "José Martí" is for kids in primary school, and you belong to it whether you like it or not.
It's a digrace that they use Marti's good name for this ****. From what my dad told me in order to box in Cuba you gotta prove that your family supports "The Revolution", which is why the governmant wouldnt let him go to the Olympics or any of those things, my guess is since they let Casa go his family "supported" the government.
