duddys been kind of a disappointment to me so far. i had such high hopes for him early in his career, and he was fun to watch. now hes afraid to let his hands go. i think he can compete with anyone at middleweight, until a guy like pavlik or abraham lands something big on him, then hes done.
Duddy could claim some LMW title as the division is quite weak, but no way will he ever beat Pavlik or Abraham. I normally want to see Irish fighters get title shots, but I'm hoping we never see Duddy and Pavlik in the ring together.
He's on a learning curve, or should i say he's re-discovering his boxing skills, give him some time and he will be back to entertaining the fans like he did in his early career. I think he is still developing and once he has mastered this new style he will be a much more complete fighter.
i really hope youre right, ive been a fan of his for a while. but i still dont think he can get to the top. his chin is just so damn shaky.
The middleweight division is very thin, so yes, at 160 Duddy is a legit top 10 guy. If I were handling him, and he wants to stay at 160, I'd get him an IBO title shot. Call him a world champion afterward, and build him a sweet career defending in Ireland and on the east cost. John is learning. I never imagined that jab, counter punching, and defense were terms we would use in relation to John, but in the Vanda fight he did all those things pretty well. He fell back into his old style toward the end, but he had the fight in the bag. I think he was just trying to put on a good show. If he really wants to mix it up with Pavlik, he should target Karmazin. Roman now holds the NABF title at 160. That pretty much guarantees an eliminator. Duddy/Karmazin on the Pavlik/Abraham undercard in November would make a hell of a show.
Duddy is kind of screwed. He can beat anyone at MW except for the big guns. Pavlik, Abraham and Sturm would beat him. So he IS a real contender but I don't think he'll be much more than a contender.
theres guy out there in the top20 that he can beat, and i think he should fight a few of them, really get suited in his style, then try to take the top dogs. like boo said, roman would be a good fight. also, im sure he could take pavliks latest victim, marco antonio rubio. then, if he really wants a good test, he can fight mundine or sturm.
:huh - Duddy should have been KOed a dozen times considering the amount of flush shots he has taken but he hasn't been dropped so i think his chin is the least of his problems
Duddy loses to ANY of the top 5 middles, so no he presently he is not a contender, ESPECIALLY to top tier of the middles, which is actually pretty weak.
hes a tough guy, but hes been rocked and almost out by guys that arent huge punchers, like old ass campas. if he fights a guy that can really punch like pavlik or abraham, i doubt hell be seeing the last round.
