I don't count Gerry Cooney as Irish just like I don't count Andy Ruiz as Mexican fighter, as they are both from USA...

I think Duddy was actually from Ireland, as far as I know he was their greatest fighter..

May be you can count Kevin McBride

I believe Tom Molinoex fought out if Ireland for a stretch so shout out to him

This thread is in honor of St Patrick's day

Gene Tunney was Irish American, Tommy Loughran was another Irish American, Jerry Quarry was another one. Not counting those I admit Duddy might be the one. Happy St Patrick's Day!

    Nonpareil Jack Dempsey!

Early Featherweight Ike Weir, and Light Heavyweight champions George Gardner and Mike McTigue deserve mentioned

Edit: Jack McAuliffe could deserve it too.

Jimmy McLarnin says hello. So do Wayne McCullough and Dave Boy McAuley.

Considering you weren't even sure if Duddy actually is Irish, and you have overlooked numerous obvious names that most would rate higher than John, citing Kevin McBride as the only alternative, I'm just wondering why you bothered starting a thread when you have little interest in, or knowledge of, the subject. What's your agenda this time around? Bit of a dig at the Irish ahead of St Patrick's Day?

Edit: Thought I'd replied. Hope it's obvious my question is to @El Gallo Negro

Does Conor Mcgregor count? Because he’s probably the most successful Irish fighter ever, and technically has a professional boxing record, that being said if he doesn’t count Nonpareil Jack Dempsey and Steve Collins were better than Duddy imo

Jimmy McLarnin was born in Ireland but was taken to Canada when he was about 3 years old. Fought his whole career in Canada and the U.S, especially the U.S.
I guess he was technically Irish as he was born there, and if so, yes, he'd perhaps have to be classed as the greatest Irish boxer.
