Is John Ruiz the worst Heavyweight Champion in 30 years, or of all time?

You mean with who 'the best' exactly was Jones at 175 and up?

    Ruiz is hard to watch.

If you base his entire career off of the Jones fight... I could see why you think the way you do.

I'm not a Ruiz fan but he is usually tough to beat or at least look good against by most HWs.

He was considered a better than average CW b4 moving up to HW. He was considered a top 25-30 type HW b4 being stopped in 19 seconds by Tua in 1996.

Since the loss to Tua he has done pretty well for an awkward, somewhat smallish HW, with average power.

19-5-1 (13) 1NC since the Tua fight. He is 5-4-1 (1)1NC in WBA HW title fights. Sure, he was easily outboxed by Jones and even Toney (later ruled a NC because Toney used a banned substance). He struggled in 3 fights vs. Holyfield, vs. Johnson, vs. Oquendo, and vs. Golota but all in all he went 4-1-1 (1) in these fights. He beat a lazy Rahman and in his defense his losses to Valuev x2 and Chagaev were close.

Worst champ in the last 30? No way! Most boring? Maybe.

I was live at DM - Hill, was a great performance by Dariusz, but not anywhere near a one - punch knockout, so what are you talking about?

Hopkins was 28 and older than Roy,who had a broken hand in that fight.

Roy was certainly a diva and that prevented some great fights from happening, but based on common opponents (Hill, Griffin, Hall), there is no reason to assume Roy would have ever lost to DM.

Moore and Charles would have beaten Roy's opposition at LHW, alright. I doubt they would have done it with the ease Roy did and I doubt any LHW in history takes out Griffin in one. DM was one of the better LHW punchers and hit Griffin with the kitchen sink and didn't take him out.

There are more than one way to dominate a fight.

Doesn't change the fact that Hopkins wasn't the Hopkins who would become an atg. He was still 5 years removed from his prime. This win isn't better than Jones' win over Griffith.

After Frazier beat Ali and Foreman bea Frazier. Did you think Foreman would lick Ali?
I don' think DM would beat Jones - although he has a real chance and would be the stiffest tes of Jones' career - but this discussion was never about Jones-DM but Jones vs. he atgs at mw and lhw. I can't mw Jones beating fighters like Monzon, Hagler, Tiger or Robinson. And I can't see lhw Jones beating Charles, Moore, Spinks or Foster.

Well, and other fighters with worse chins wen the distance with Jones. So?

I don't think so, Braddock had trouble his whole career with fast fighters, all of which are nowhere near as fast as Jones.
