This is Roy Jones who we are talking about right... The answer is YES man, delete this thread... it's garbage.
Roy Jones is an ATG. If he isnt, then take every ATG off the list also. Its a privilege to watch Roy fight.
Roy never lost in his prime either. Unless you consider the Griffin DQ as a true "loss"(which I dont). He was in his mid 30's, and coming back down from heavyweight when he finally suffered a loss. Lewis on the other hand was KO'd by McCall in his prime, and it can also be argued he was in his prime when Rachman KO'd him also. Lewis was a great fighter, but please dont compare him to Roy Jones. Jones is a considerably greater and better fighter.
hell yeah he was an all time great.. probably the best fighter of the last 20 years. And LL was definitly an all time great too
what kind of stupid question is this? are you related to Roger Mayweather have you beenwhatching boxing forthe last 15 years? The man is one of the greatest ever, so what he got Ko'd this is boxing people it happens, you know what you call boxers who dont get ko'd and can take ungodly amounts of punishmet future parkinson's disease patients. sorry to be blunt but this is a stupid question!
It would have been interesting to see how Lewis would have reacted if prime Roy would have started fighting heavyweight then.
I`ve raised a good point. Both defeats were devastating KO`s which were not avenged. Surely this must affect his standing whether he was in his prime or not. The fact that he was not "in his prime" does not remove those losses from the history books.
I don't know man. I would have said he definitely would've outranked Hopkins if they had both retired five years ago but since than, Bernard has improved his legacy with wins over Wright, and Tarver (man who beat Jones twice) and competitive, higly debatable losses to JC and JT. Plus Hopkins holds wins over the two guys who stopped Jones (Johnson and Tarver). Its all subjective anyways but Hopkin's longevity has definitly boosted his ATG status. If he beats Pavlik and Roy loses to Calzagay, I think it'll be even harder to determine who should rank higher because you have to consider their career as a whole, not just prime for prime.
Roy is much further past his prime. A Roy win over Joe would mean a lot, whereas a Joe win over Roy wouldn't mean as much, given how favored Joe is to win and the different stages the two are at in their careers.
