Or have some kind of agenda, as is the case with the OP here... He's also dumb and probably 16 or younger, so he fulfills the whole trinity here!

Another predictably ****-poor thread and argument from The Mongolist.

Why don't you ever think these things through before boring people with your idiocy?

How does what a boxer does in the last few years of his career when he is shot, negate all the things he achieved in his career when he was prime? Is getting beaten when you're old and past it more important than the vast majority of a career? So is that the basis for deciding if someone was an ATG or not?

Obviously not, but let's run with it anyway, just to show what a pathetic thread this is.

RJJ's body was ****ed after his jump up to heavyweight and subsequent burn back to lightheavyweight, his reflexes and punch resistance were shot to ****. Everyone could see that in the fights with Tarver and Johnson. Why was a guy who had dazzled HOF opposition like Toney and Hopkins, suddenly being sparked by a lower level of opposition?? Work it out.

Lennox Lewis had only been a world champion for a year or so when he got KO'd by Oliver McCall. His personal peak was still to come, and he fought on for another 9 years after that fight. Of course he had perfect reason and opportunity to seek and get a rematch, and win it, as the McCall KO was a lucky punch dealt by an inferior fighter to a superior fighter. Jones Jr at the time of the Tarver and Johnson fights was already finished, it was impossible for him to turn back time and win a rematch. Completely different situation.

With Rahman, again it was a lucky shot from a vastly inferior fighter (The Ring Upset of the Year). With Jones, we know his losses weren't this, they were symptomatic of fighter in rapid and irreversible physical decline. Lewis returned to beat Rahman, then good quality opposition in Tyson and Klitschko (well, at that stage Tyson was maybe a decent test rather than good). Jones Jr has not fought even decent opposition since Tarver and Johnson.

Jones Jr in his career won NINE world titles in FOUR weight divisions. He was the first former middleweight in 100 years to win a heavyweight world title. He was p4p#1 for quite some time, he was Fighter of the Year in 1994, he beat James Toney and Bernard Hopkins, he is universally recognized as one of the most naturally talented, athletic, and electrifying fighters boxing has ever seen.

Why would 2 bad losses near the end of his career be the deciding factor, above all of those achievements, against him being considered an ATG?? The idea is insane.

Near the end of their careers...

    - Muhammad Ali lost to a guy who was in his 9th pro fight
    - Roberto Duran was stopped in 3 rounds by William Joppy
    - Julio Cesar Chavez lost to Willy Wise and had to quit in the 5th round v Grover Wiley
    - Thomas Hearns was stopped in 3 by Iran Barkley then lost a rematch with Barkley, then was stopped in 2 by Uriah Grant

I ask you: are these guys ATGs, or are they not because of these ridiculous reasons????

    As usual: :smoke

you think Roy was as far gone as the fighters you listed above when he was starched by Tarver? So because Roy gets his Glass Jaw shattered he was shot? LOL.

Roy never cleaned out a division avoided fights at Middleweight, Super Middleweight, and Light Heavyweight. So a resume with Hopkins, Toney, Tarver (who he also has 2 losses to) and John Ruiz gets you a Top 10 ATG in History? :huh

I dont know RJJ was fighting policeman taxi drivers in his prime.
There were alot of major fights he passed up. To fight some par time boxers

When he beat his opponents he made them look silly but he realy didnt go after the best fights possible

Just curious. Who, in your view would have beaten Roy in his prime?

You say he never cleaned out a devision, I wonder how important that is? To me, I think its more important to move up in weight to capture titles.

Belts mean nothing. If a fighter goes from division to division and DOES NOT fight the best fighters in that Division how does that make someone an ATG? There are 4 belts per division now in the old days there was 1 champion there were not 4 per a division. Who cares if he won 9 belts?

Roy was fighting Police Officers and Bartenders in his prime instead of the best avaliable competition he refused to take risks.

He was further gone than Hearns when Hearns lost to Barkley twice. And yes, RJJ was shot.

Look at his performances pre-Ruiz and post-Ruiz. It's obvious he ****ed his body with that.

And where did I say he was a top 10 ATG in history?? Where did I say that?? I think he is top 10 h2h, top 10 on natural ability, but maybe not top 10 p4p, maybe top 20, hard to say.

At one point RJJ held the:

    WBC
    WBA
    IBF
    IBO
    WBF
    IBA
    NBA
    and
    The Ring Light-Heavyweight

titles all at the same time. Not bad for someone who never cleaned out a division.

So who was the best available competition that Jones avoided? And please enlighten me as to supporting your claim that it was ROY who avoided these guys and not the other way around.
